Question Transferring Websites to Others

What is the most effective way to transfer an entire website from one person to another? How about MySQL databases?

I've been thinking about this and simply don't know the best way to do this. Feedback appreciated guys and girls!

The EASIEST way would be to simply let the buyer take over the account where it's hosted. But if it must me moved to another server, you'll have to use FTP and export as jdickson said.

So would using the backup function in cpanel be fine? Download a backup of the site, and download a copy of the sql database?

I personally would rather FTP the individual files than trust the backup system. But yes, you could do it that way.

These answers aren't very precise:

If you have cpanel, you COULD do a full backup. However, this is what I do (and works extremely well).

Use an ftp client and copy all of public_html (or wwwroot if you have a windows server) onto your computer. Then, if you have cpanel, click backup then download each mysql database.

Login to your new hosting account and upload all the files in public_html. Then go to backup and upload your mysql databases If i have a script installed with fantastico, i simply reinstall this script then copy/paste the sql code using phpmyadmin into the new database. This works for me 100%, and although it may be more than a simple click of a button, this gives you full control over everything and you can pinpoint the area of any problems.
