Most amount of money you have been scammed?

Got the idea from Snake for this thread.

So tell us what the most is you have been scammed by.

I have been 'kind of' scammed by my old webhost www.ukhost4u.com (terrible - beware) and stole my domain and took money for hosting they couldnt provide. Suppose the value of the domain and hosting was well over $100.

Most I was in debt online, was once when a host charged my credit card thirty or so times, for a rather large hosting package for a project I was working on. The credit card was almost maxed already, so the other twenty five or so charges cost around $40 each from my credit card... Not fun.

Got it straightened out though...

Also posted this in another thread.. Might of been a mistake more than a Scam, but it's not fun.

Also, I was scammed out of a owned vbulletin license with the no branding option.

I was going to purchase a site from someone which I ended up not getting. I'd offered to let him keep $50 dollars for his troubles. But it took him several months for him to pay me back $100, and he still owes me $200. This was about 2 years ago.

Yeah, so don't do business with Daniel Hamer.

I was scammed a couple of years ago on eBay for $300 which was for a digital camera. The idiot scammed 169 other victims for a grand total of $189,000.

Secondly, I haven't been scammed a large amount; actually, don't remember being scammed at all .

That doesn't mean anyone tries to scam me now !

NamePros Hall of Fame

As far as I know, I have never been successfully scammed ... though many years ago, I trusted someone who turned out to be a VERY bad person, IMHO. I almost got scammed to the tune of some domains and (approx. $150 - $200) Paypal money (in what was to be a "trade") ... I did some last-minute investigating and found out the domains I wanted in return weren't even his (and I was so going to send him the domains and Paypal first, too, cause I thought he was nice dude)!

It was long ago, sure ... and was not on the Namepros site, but I think I learned a LOT that day and week, IMHO.

Hoping no more scams online for all eternity!

See you soon.

You learn on your mistakes, heh? :-)
Who knows... I tend to think positive. Maybe that $300 worth of experience could save me $30,000 or $300,000 in the long run B) hahah

uk web design company with massive scam at the moment

Hi all, I worked for 1 day last week for a web design company in the uk in telesales. I quit after that first day because of the scams they are pulling:

sign any business up for a great web package, low cost at 99GBP
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=99192
Design a really horrible template site (All their sites are the same template)
Harass this business constantly afterwards to upgrade to higher priced sites

HERES THE SCAM PART

convince the business that they need site promotion (this included telling businesses how stupid they were if they didn't do this and generally throwing insults disguised as advise)

THE SITE PROMOTION they offer says they GUARENTEE first (not second - only first) place position in google for all of their chosen key words. They also tell people that they are one of only 3 companies in the world that can do this because they have a special arrangement with google. Any one else who offers similar is lying!

Then they take the money anything from 500 GBP upto 1500GBP and DO NOTHING other than basic submission.

This company has over 1,000,000 turn over each year and just gets away with lies!

£90 for a ipod 1 year ago, I thought it was a bit cheap for a mini ipod on ebay but he did have 94 100% pos feedback.

I think all forums should have a wanted thread with all these names, As there probably still outthere now doing it still.

$2250 - His name is Jason Tibula (SP?), I was refered to him by Jeremy Johnstone. Jeremey was sketchy at first if he would be doing the work, or if someone else was. Well it turned out someone else was, and when they didn't do it and stop responding to me Jeremy told me he was doing it - but he didn't do it either. So they are both scum in my book.

If you know either of them, punch them in the stomach for me next time you see them.

PS. It was a rather large coding job...

I have only been scammed once, by a man who goes by the username Wapture. He owed many 2 domain regristations, but I just never got them. His response was always:

"I'll do it later on tonight."

Finally after about 2 months, I just gave up, as it wasn't worth my time and effort, for something I was never going to get.

$2000

Had a business partner, and he sent me money, and told me I could spend it on the server etc. Unfortunately, he hacked someone elses paypal to get the money. Then I spent the money, and everything was like a domino effect. First the person he scammed did a refund, which caused everything I had a refund.

Was very stressful. I didnt sleep for about 2 weeks. I was so scared... Fortunately paypal got everything straightened out.
