Can't transter vBulletin license...

I don't know where else to put this situation on Name Pros. Also, I'm not trying to "diss" vBulletin but I've hit a wall and need help. I understand their concerns but I can't be the first person to experience the situation I'm about to describe. There's got to be some remedy other than what VB has advised.

I sold NP member owntype PC101 domains and the VB license that went with them. Unfortunately, it's been so long since I've logged onto VB.com I do not remember the password. I can't reset or request a reminder of the password because since I don't have the domain name the email associated with the license is gone too.

So, here's the problem... and I totally understand the need for VB.com to maintain security...but... they won't allow me to transfer the license to owntype unless I answer the security question. Uhh... not my security question... I was never asked a security question when the license was transferred to me... they want to know the answer to the original license owner's question.

I provided all kinds of other info... that added together ... I hoped would satisfy their concerns but I'm still stuck!

I bought the domain name and license here on NP at the end of 2005 or the beginning of 2006. I can't scroll back that far on my threads/posts in order to find the original license owner. So... what now?! Any ideas? Does anyone remember selling me a VB license 4+ years ago?!

Let this also be a word of caution to anyone else who decides to buy a (used) VB license from someone! Ask them their secret question or you may end up being locked out of your own license!

If anyone has any thoughts, suggestions, ideas on how to get this license transferred, please let me know!

My first thought was to get your old email account activated. I'm sure the new owner will understand and temporarily create said account.

That's an option...though that gives a stranger access to my VB account. Am I concerned about that... not really... as I don't believe (not 100% sure) there's any financial info there. Does someone know otherwise??

With all the reselling of VB licenses, I'm surprised there's nothing in place for new owners to take full... complete... and total ... possession of the license. Apparently, the question is asked once, only once when the license is first purchased and never seen again! With all the license resold how can knowing the original licensee's security question be the only remedy for getting your password??

I totally realize I'm the one who doesn't remember her password! I get that! I don't get that the solution to getting my password is knowing info I couldn't possibly know and didn't even know that I needed know!? Geez... say that three times fast! lol
