Avoid Register.com at all cost

Short Story: Worst registrar ever. Can't transfer out my domain.

Long Story: In February I bought a domain at snapnames. It was registered with "register.com" so I opened an account with them to manage it. Since I don't like my domains to be spread to multiple registrars I decided to move that domain to another registrar I use regularly.

5 days ago, on 10 July 2010 I requested a transfer code from register.com using the account panel. After clicking through lots and lots of annoying pages finally I arrived at the final button to submit epp code request. They even ask you to fill in a survey explaining why you want to transfer away. But instead sending the epp code the final page displayed a message saying they need to approve my request and it will take 4-5 days.

4 days later I received an email saying they won't send me the epp code and I should call them. I live in the UK so this is an International call for me that costs money. So I tried to send them an email hoping they would respond but there was no response at all.

I gave them a call and they kept me waiting for very long time and nobody answered. While waiting there was an automated message by somebody by the name Sandy Ross, who is apparently a manager at that company who gave his email, sandy@register.com and suggested to email him directly if there is any problem. So I send a second email to that address and never heard anything.

I called them again for the second time and again they kept me waiting for 10 minutes and nobody answered. So today I called them again for the third time. Again they kept me waiting for about 10 minutes but this time somebody answered.

The person said it is normal for them to keep people waiting for up to 5 days for an epp code and sometimes they might reject sending it especially if you made some updates to your account information recently. Anyway, this customer service person then sends me an email to verify I am the account holder. So I verify it while we are still on the phone. Then she sends me the epp code with another email. At this point I thought finally this nightmare is going to end.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/warnings-and-alerts/666820-avoid-register-com-at-all-cost.html

So I go to my other registrar and start a transfer. Guess what happens? A few hours later I get a warning saying the epp code is incorrect. I go to another registrar and try transfer again and same thing happens. I get an email telling transfer was cancelled because of incorrect epp code.

So I send register.com another email and as usual I don't get any answer. After 5 days, 3 phone calls and 3 mails I still don't have my transfer code. Avoid Register.com at all cost. Those guys are the worst registrar ever.

I've had almost similar situation with them, but the good thing that they have online support chat.
I had the same problem with incorrect code, but after the chat with the support and their call to me - the problem was solved. Don't remember really if they gave a new code or it was the same one - but remember that everything was OK.
So suggesting to try their online support chat.

Register.com is most annoying registrar ever. Nearly all other registrars give you your transfer code instantly.

I have never heard of any other registrar except register.com who requires to call them just to get a bloody transfer code. I have spent money and time for 3 international calls and I'm extremely pissed by that company.

Screw register.com. I hate people like Sandy Ross who is a manager at register.com.

Just because they don't want to lose customers they think it is a good idea to make it very difficult, costly and stressful to transfer out your domain. This is the most stupid thing I have experienced for a very long time.
