How Do I Avoid This Possible Scam???

Please excuse me if I have not posted in the right place, because I am not sure if I am being scammed ....I am just worried that I might be based on recent info received..............

I am interested in buying a domain off someone who says that he has a site that receives 400 hits a day and he is prepared to let me do a traffic test on the domain name.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/warnings-and-alerts/305168-how-do-i-avoid-possible-scam.html

However, I am a relative newbie at this game and recently heard of companies offering people the option to buy traffic in whatever quantity they want......so whats to stop this person buying the traffic in advance, knowing that when I traffic test I will see the results I am looking for, and then once I have paid him for the domain....the "traffic" dries up......

Is there anyway I can analyse the traffic stats that would tell me if it comes from paid traffic companies??

Thanks for all responses

Credible sellers offering high-traffic domains keep detailed records of both traffic and revenue. If these do not exist for this sale, then reformulate your offer to factor in the 99.9% likelihood that the traffic will not meet your expectations.

In terms of tracking stats yourself, the easiest way is to add a script to the page (like using statcounter or something). You can then see points of entry. I believe paid traffic would be pretty obvious if you had the visitor IPs.
