Define ignored?

dmr was likely known by those that mattered to him in his field - you don't get a National Medal of Technology by accident.

There are thousands of people that die each and every day that I don't know about so it's hardly a metric to be concerned about.

Pretty sure when I pop not many people are going to know about it.

There should be an institution for finding ignored geniuses, and funding and helping some who already work. They are mostly too good in what they do, that they can not manage anything else in their lives.
Gates, Jobs and Hawking are rare exceptions.

Well I think its a matter of Luck.
There are many people with lesser innovations but more popular than others. So it depends upon media, time, luck, etc

the difference between the two geniuses is that one had the courage to market his face! the other goes unknown and resurrects to his next life as Jobs! So in the end it all balances out!
