Question Hope For Hockey?

Hey guys, the NHL and the NHL Players Association met on Thursday here in Toronto.

The meeting was the first after September 9th. The NHL accepted an invitation for a meeting as the NHLPA had a proposal that could end the 3-month long hockey lockout. After 4 hours of meeting, the NHL said that it would review the proposal fully, and there will be a meeting on Tuesday, either accepting the proposal, or giving a counter-offer.

Now I really hope something can come out of these meetings, and that there would, after all, be a season. If all goes well, the season will probably start near the end of January, and would be a shortened season (about 40 games).

I'm hoping and praying!

What do you guys think? Season or no season?

That's true, but nothing like seeing the stars playing for the Stanley Cup.

Hopefully they will get something worked out soon as I want to see my Avalanche win a Stanley Cup.

To be honest I wish the NHL would hire all new people to play. Set it up so no player can make X a year EVER. The other major sports need to do the same. If there was less cash going to the players then maybe more could afford to goto games.

I wish I was alive back when the players of most sports started and ended their careers with the same team.

That's a good point, but if you see many, I'd say about 70% of the teams, you see the building is nearly full. Especially if you see in markets like Toronto, Montreal, Detroit, Philadelphia, the games are near sell-outs. In cities like Ottawa, there is a very large crowd.

So I think that there are enough people that can afford to go to games. I doubt that is the main issue.

Also, I want to get your thoughts on the following:

Who do you think is to blame for the lockout & and also the salaries? The players or owners?

I'm hoping man, I'm just hoping!

Tomorrow's the meeting, probably with the league giving a counter-proposal. Let's hope and pray that something gets worked out!

Its everyones fault for letting it get out of hand.

I dont watch hockey much, only when Pittsburgh is on TV, so I didnt really know they was on "strike" until I heard it on the news a while back.

Haha, I hope they will have no season at all.
Man soon enough Mats Sundin coming to play in Djurgarden, then we are set to win SM-GULD again ;D

NHL players in my team Djurgarden atm, is Dan Boyle, Nils Ekman, Marcus Nilson, Jimmie Ölvestad, Espen Knutsen and Mariusz Czerkawski. We had Marty Turco great goolie but he had to go home for personal reasons.

Mats Sundin will sign for us if the NHL season is canceled, maybe Tie Domi also.

Modo Hockey has probably most stars = Peter Forsberg and Mats Näslund and other...

Today's the meeting; it's been going on since 1 PM EST here.
Just checked NHL.com and Gary Bettman is supposed to be addressing the media right now. Let me check it out.

Lets hope!

Aww, don't say that.

I think it should be a source of pride for Sweden that Sundin and other great Swedish players are playing here in North America and is successful here.

Okay, listening to Bettman's speech right now. The NHL rejected the NHLPA's proposal and gave a counter-proposal.

Too many points were mentioned to keep in mind, but I'll check the transcript and let you guys know the exact details.

But what I do remember is that the NHL's counter-proposal (part of it) states that players earning under $800,000 wouldn't have a salary rollback. Players earning $800-1.? Million would have to get a 15% rollback, and it keeps going until 5 Million, after which there is a 30% rollback.

30% is too much IMO. I think every team would have atleast two players that earn $5 M (Captain & Goalie).

Let's see what the PA says.

Also Bettman said to fans:"We will make it right for you."

Yeah let's hope!

Alright, got the transcript.

Here's a summary of the counter-offer: http://nhlcbanews.com/news/comparison.html

Too long to post here.

But I will finish what I said before about the scaled salary rollbacks.

Here's how it goes:

Less than $800,000 0%
$800,000 to $1.499 mm 15%
$1.5 mm to $1.99 mm 20%
$2.00 mm to $3.99 mm 24%
$4.0 mm to $4.99 mm 30%
$5.00 mm and greater 35%

Check out the proposal: http://nhlcbanews.com/news/nhlresponse121404.html

EDIT: THE NHLPA REJECTED THE NHL OFFER!

Let's hope and pray!

NEED HOCKEY!
