![]() ![]() ![]() | My Mom spends most of the summer at her house in San Miguel de Allende. She's getting up in years and I've advised her to take heed and wait a while until the situation is fully realized. Right now I don't think it's worth the risk.

????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/the-break-room/578849-swine-flu-whos-worried.html I live in Mexico City and we got surprised when the alert level rised from 3 to 4 on a 6 scale. Half the people are not covering their mouths when on the street. Too much noise outside, it seems more people (tourists) are getting sick when they get home than the people who is sick here. Shouldnt people die like flies on Mexico City`s airport? Viral means logaritmic growth, right? News around the globe like BBC have false news on their sites showing comments from unexistent doctors. It´s a serious problem, but I feel Mexico is under the attack of bad press. I hope nothing else happens beyond this information sickened war.

????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=578849 Yep. I was travelling around China during the SARS hysteria, in all the hotspots. I was terrified - not by SARS, but by the possibility that any of the frequent checkpoints I had to go through (airports, highways, residential areas) would find me with a fever and lock me away in a hospital for an indefinite period of time. The losses to business and the resultant unemployment in already poor countries probably killed more people than SARS itself. I am surprised that the media can so easily lead people by the nose again and again in exactly the same fashion. As though the concept that we might die is a new one...

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | My daughter is going to Mexico on her honeymoon in 3 weeks, her travel agent said there is no way she can cancel or she looses the whole amount (all prepaid) If there is a government ban on travel, don't they have to refund her? How can they force her to go after they tell you not to?? |

![]() Not to worry, food is safe. From the CDC website: Can people catch swine flu from eating pork? ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=578849 No. Swine influenza viruses are not transmitted by food. You can not get swine influenza from eating pork or pork products. Eating properly handled and cooked pork and pork products is safe. Cooking pork to an internal temperature of 160°F kills the swine flu virus as it does other bacteria and viruses.

????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=578849 And this media-driven hysteria isn't without cost. People lose their jobs and livelihoods because of it. SARS was a few hundred people, maybe a couple thousand, out of well over a billion people exposed to it. And only a few of those died. Your chances of catching it were a few in a million. Yet that didn't stop those who were "protecting" us from ruining millions of livelihoods and increasing poverty. You're better off watching Lost or American Idol than soaking up this mass media crap called "news." You'll be more relaxed, too.
