Guys, we're seriously considering a moratorium on political threads, seeing how it tends to divide instead of unite our community. But before we go that route, we'll first try strict implementation of this longtime rule:
I realize that there were many past posts that were blatantly impolite, and yet ignored or allowed to proceed. Moving forward, we shall impose official warnings for each infraction of the above rule, even if you are only replying to a previous insult. Earn enough warning points in a spcified period, and you might actually earn a ban.
It doesn't matter how long you've been around, or how good/bad you were in the past. From this point on, we shall be implementing this rule strictly, and on everyone!
Some notes (I'll keep adding as they come up):
- Placing swear words in asterisks, such as a** or f***, would still be considered insulting if addressed to someone on NP. So saying "Hey so-and-so, you're an a**!" is not ok, but saying "So-and-so politician is an a**" is ok.
Everyone has their own opinions and not everyone agrees on a certain thing. I don't know why people get so caught up into politics and start flaming each other, but hopefully this new rule will help others learn to be more polite towards other people in here!
nah still... i think its really stupid to get into brawls over politics....
or pretty much anything else for that matter.... its only a forum!
The only time ive ever insulted someone is when he screwed me for something... but apart from that kind of thing, i see no reason to insult someone... and even then .....
Heh Heh .... Was wondering how far it would go before Some action would take place ~ We've all vented and bragged over the election(s) - Lets get back to Domains Thx for the Stern reminder Armstrong ~~~
I apologize for my behavoir. My only problem is that people like LeeRyder don't like if someone has an opinion that differs from their own and has to critizise and pull apart anything you say if they don't like it.

No wwe, I simply dont like people who have no clue what they are talking about repeating lies and garbage. If you can't have an independant thought, then kindly stow it.
As Sabre, he is much like you in his beliefs (hates Bush..etc) BUT he has valid reasons for it.. and they do not include Michael Moore's wet dreams. Sabre and I NEVER argue because I respect him becuase he has his OWN opinion, not one dictated to him by some liberal wingnut.
Let's not step on free speech eh....just because some people get carried away doesn't mean you should kill a subject..politics and arguments go han din hand and alway swill..we just need to respect each others opinions....
@Amstrong, pitty that it has to be this way, one of the main reasons I like this forum is (still) that (most) people ARE friendly and polite, so it is sad to here you have to give out warning point and be a police officer. This is not what this forum deserved. Can we actually see if somebody has become warning points?
Yes, the warning system has been in place for a while now. It isn't public info, so only the moderators and the members concerned see their points.
I'm saddened as well that we actually need such a system, but the truth of the matter is that it only takes a little push of the correct buttons, and everything we have worked for and nurtured here could dissolve into anarchy, which isn't a good environment for doing business.
In a ballgame, when someone hits you, and you hit back, do the referrees punish just the one who first threw a punch? No! In fact, both players get punished.
The same rule apply here - if someone insults you, just put on a brave face and smile in the knowledge that your attacker will soon get warning points. And if he's angry enough to keep doing it, who knows maybe he'll even get kicked out. Pretty soon you won't need to hear his BS.
yup - politeness costs nothing. Sadly, even that seems to be expensive for some.
I welcome this move as Namepros was becoming a drag with the constant bickering and mudslinging by a select few.
Thanks for taking action Armstrong - much appreciated

I think the point is that people were not respecting other peoples opinions. Regardless of what the information was or which facts were produced to back it up - individuals were constantly hijacking political debate to mudlsing and be insulting if they disagreed with something rather than entering into serious political debate. People were even criticising other people's spelling for crying out loud - that was how stupid and inane the 'political debate' was getting. I for one am bored with it as I think I have made quite clear in repeated threads.
I will always be the first person to defend freedom of speech but as the quote says, with freedom of speach comes great responsibility and sadly, there was not a lot of responsibility being shown here at Namepros.
Nazism is always trotted out when things like this are mentioned - sort of a soundbite now in issues like this but lets use another famous soundbite -
'Does Freedom of Speech allow you to shout 'FIRE' in a crowded cinema'
- no, because that is irresponsible and brings us full circle to the whole responsibility issue.

And as far as offending people, this is a forum and 99% of people here don't know each other (some might, otherwise I would have said 100%) so I really don't care all that much what people here think of me.
The only posts that really bothered me were the completly useless made up phrases by DSL. And the 1 post by Lee that armstrong edited (before he edited it)
