| Hustles like Dean //5 | California! Need to hear some thoughts on CA from whoever lives there. Ive been looking around for a place to relocate that Id be able to stay in my profession and CA is one of them. I went on realtor.com and was like OMG no way when I saw how cheap some really decent houses were in cities like Stockton. Is there a reason for this? Is that a really bad area? I cant imagine with houses that are that new looking and in such good shape would be in such a bad neighborhood...only thing I didnt like was that some backyards were cement lol no grass? Other than that are there areas that are within like an hour of the bay that have either A) apartments for under 1k a month or B) homes under 200k? Just out of curiousity as I would like to put California on my list of possible places to go once I leave the godforsaken northeast ![]() Thanks NP!

In all honesty the worry I did have was about gangs and illegals but I was hoping that they were only exaggerated by the media and not as bad as it sounds. I used to live in indiana most of my life 6-19 so I know all about how relaxing and peaceful the midwest is, aint no money though ya reckon? cept in the rv industry where I was from.

| NamePros Expert | Central California was hit hard by the morgage crises, and many name Stockton as ground zero, thats why the houses look low price. Stockton has some misreable neighborhoods (even it your house looks ok) There are really better areas in northern cal to live in. The closer you live to the bay area the better it is job wise and probally fun wise for most people. |

Also, plenty of cheap houses and rentalks less than 1000/month like you had asked. Pretty calm around these parts and not as red neck as people seem to think :P

| Senior Member | Jay Jay, If you're interested in areas with loads of Ins. companies, the Warner Center area of the San Fernando Valley, in L.A., is deludged with them! Nice upscale area too! And today is the 9th of January, and it should be about 72 degrees today!! And where else can you snow ski in the morning, and surf in the ocean in the afternoon??!

| Pirate Team Leader | California is amazing - our government sucks ass, but the scenery is unmatched. I can take pics of the ladies who show up at the beach every weekend. ![]() But seriously, real estate having been where I've spent the last 10 years, I can help you find the good places and sort out the crappy ones. -G |

| Account Closed | Cali is my favorite state... the further inland you go the cheaper and the hotter it is... I like Santa Cruz, 1hr15 from SF, 30mins from silicon valley, 5 hours from LA.... right by the ocean, massive forests - eco minded people....and it is cheaper here than over the hill in San Jose! (Oh and it is never too hot or cold, I like to say during the day - you can wear long or short sleeves and feel comfortable) Cali has taken a hit like domain names. The *less desirable areas inland like Stockton and Soledad have taken massive hits, while coastal cities have only come down slightly. Palo Alto actually has gained ![]() And a little tip, if you don't want to buy yet (thinking it will come down more as I also think) you can rent a house for far less than what a mortgage payment would be on the same house if you bought it - if you know where to look Last edited by tight-aggressive; 01-09-2009 at 03:20 PM. |

| Hustles like Dean //5 | Chad excellent stuff thanks so much man now i have a whole list of places to look! I would definitely consider renting a house vs buying a house or renting an apt just because it makes alot more sense. I know to stay away from Stockton for sure now thanks guys!

| Senior Member | Jay, Seriously.. just wondering why move to cali? Dispite the horrible gun laws, traffic, smog, you wont be able to defend yourself.... You will get a crap house for $200k. Move to certain small towns in TX and live on a lake with a dock, 4-5 br, 4000 sq feet house and land for that price.

| Hustles like Dean //5 | LOL MMMJJJ yes you are right on that end, but as pleasing as that does sound, this is about furthering my career above anything while being somewhere most people dream of, thats why I thought of California. I love the idea of Texas as well though and have been looking at a few areas there especially after talking to DR he gave me a few places to look at. Honestly after talking to all of you past few days I have a huge list to go through and am more interested now in what jobs I can find...if I can find one in California Ill rent a room there, if I can find one in Texas Ill get my own place there, etc. Ive also added NC to my list, but quite honestly California is still at the top of my list, if I have to rent the rest of my life so be it, im not interested in starting a family, just having fun with my money and dating and living care free, from what I here Cali is the place for a care free lifestyle. Texas is more of a longshot until I can find a really good company interested in paying me at least close to what I make now, as I dont want a huge cut in pay even if it means having less bills as I understand Texas is one of the cheapest places to live. This is not the easiest decision nor was I expecting it to be, it all comes down to what job offers I get so I guess I will know very soon.
