So I was lucky to see the famous Barcelona play my local team Dundee United this afternoon, and I was literally frightened by the talent of Messi. He notched a hat-trick in 24 mins and basically outshown every other player, and Im not suprised he's he's been quoted as the best player in the world. Ive been lucky to see Henry and Ronaldinho in the past but this guy is just sensational...
He was placed 2nd behind Kaka for best footballer in the World in 2007. Cristiano Ronaldo came 3rd. It would be no surprise if Lionel wins it this year with Cristiano coming second. Whatever way you look at it he is definately an outstanding little player.
Last year he scored probably the best goal of all time against Getafe in the Spanish league. The goal was very similar to the one that Maradona scored against England when he ran almost the whole field dribling about 6 or 7 players including the keeper before scoring. Remember that one?

I was just amazed at how good he was. The game was really even at 1-1 at half time, but when he came on, he ripped United apart. Ive never seen anything like it
Oh yeah, ive seen that goal. Such a special player and Im really glad i had a front row seat to see how good he was!
Kev!
Hows things since you sold me Scotland.tv
I hope you done something great with the vast profit you made
I watched Messi & Barcelona destroy Hibs just a few days before the Utd game & he was amazing. All the Hibs defenders were raving about him the next day, saying how one minute he looked uninterested & the next minute he would beat 3 men like they were invisible.
Well, Ronaldinho, Anderson, Pato and gang is in Singapore right now, preparing for the Beijing Olympic. I may catch them on action at the National Stadium tomorrow evening.
Here is a short history of this magnificent player:
Like so many Argentinean kids, Leonel started playing football at the age of 5, influenced by his father who was a coach at a local football club called Grandoli. In 1995 at the age of 8 his dad sent him to Newell's Old Boys, a football club in Rosario that has one of the finest Youth Football Academies in the country.
Everything was going well for the talented Messi, until 3 years later when he was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency that fortunately was treatable. This was a big blow to him and his family who could not afford the high monthly cost of the treatment.
FC Barcelona who had been scouting Leonel for some time, and knowing of his enormous potential, decided to help out and signed him up to play in Barca’s Youth Team . After recovering from his treatment in Spain, he played for a few years in the Youth team before moving up to Barcelona’s B team.
It wasn’t long before the diminutive 1,69m tall player made his debut in the senior team soon after his 17th birthday. Since then Leonel Messi has had a meteoric rise in the Catalan Team as well as for the Argentina National Team, thanks to his fabulous passing and goal scoring skills.
Imagine if Barça had not helped out. We would probably never heard of the 21 year old Messi.
