These aren't the first tactical squads to use these "vehicles". The idea is for the team to have transportation that is fast, easily maneuverable in a crowd where cars and bikes can't go, turns on a dime, and basically becomes an extension of the officer's legs. But looking at that picture, made me think of this scenario:
All these officers approach the crowd in a stadium or its parking lot just like in the picture, EXCEPT they don't have guns drawn-out or pointing at anyone. They are just slowly trying to get though the crowd as a bundle of officers on there way to the other side of the stadium. Seeing them like this, the crowd, especially at the Olympics where folks are going to be uneasy with all the anti-terrorism security anyway, and where many from other countries are going to feel uneasy about the Chinese police, panics thinking a terrorist act or threat just happened. The crowd stampedes! End result:
1) Crowd: Paranoid and lost control runs over each other. Many hurt & some possibly crushed to death in the stampede. Crowd: 0 points
2) These police get trampled. Those "vehicles" may be maneuverable, but you're just an accident waiting to happen in a paranoid crowd. Half the officers end-up in hospital. Cops: 0 points
3) Terrorists: 1 point for every person hurt in the paranoia - And, they didn't even have to show up or be anywhere around to win this one.
Honestly they should have invented some type of walking tank (ala Mechwarrior or Japanese Mecha anime) to patrol the grounds. I imagine that would be a tad bit less moronic then these guys.
