I used to like Missle Command and Defender.. also got harder towards the end.

My favorite version of Asteroids (Mine Storm) was on the Vectrex game console. Mine Storm was the default game and built-in to the system.

The Vectrex was a cool system.. even had a light pen and 3D goggles! It outsold the Atari 2600 by 4 to 1! Had plastic overlays for the screen to simulate color.
My mom loved playing it!
