Considering that the whole income tax system should have been done away with years ago.. I think 3 years is a bit much. Chances are he won't end up doing that much time, if any.
Interestingly, the more popular a person is, instead of getting special treatment, in cases like these they actually get the shaft and have it worse, because they're "made an example" of.
As with many things in Hollywood and such things though, it's likely he'll get far less actual time spent in jail, if at all.

Why I feel some sympathy. I don't really like how the defense were arguing that he has no right to be paying taxes. That sort of attitude gets you the full sentence. That's my 2 cents.
How come you don't pay your taxes? Since you are breaking the law, I see no fault in the government arresting you. How is the government arresting criminals BS?
While three years is a little harsh, I'm happy the government is finally cracking down on criminals (yes criminals) who do not pay taxes.
Trust me I don't like paying taxes, however they are a necessity to the wellbeing of the country we live in.
I'm not exactly keen on making Snipes a champion of the people, if you know what I mean. He didn't want to pay taxes - no one wants to pay taxes, but when you break the law, you incur a penalty. The idea is for the penalty to hurt, and for most Americans that is monetary penalty but for this guy only actual jail time would be more than a proverbial slap on the wrist.
I think what put the lock on the door in this case is that he first refuted having to pay taxes but then said "I'll pay them" when it became clear he was gonna be sentenced.

I personally think its harsh, I could understand if he was down on his luck, and barely getting by, but when you make several millions of dollars per year, like really, you have to expect to get the book thrown at you. ps. I hate the tax system myself.
