The Grid

Will The Grid make the Internet obsolete? http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,347212,00.html Will The Grid use domain names?

Anyone remember 1200 baud modems? Who would have thought that we'd end up with today's cable speeds. Will cable then become the 1200 baud modem when The Grid gets bigger? Will we see an explosion like we did with the Internet in the late 90s?

Anyone going to buy any Grid domains, like GridHosting.com or GridDomains.com? Maybe we'll have a .grid or a .grd TLD.

Well, there are 2 explosions what i can see right now....:

A: cablemodems because of the data :-) (i know you will need new equipment)

B: Movie and music piracy(the industry could try to block the grid?)

I remember 6 years ago when i still lived in Germany, we went to a friend who was the network admin at the university of Tuebingen(in the south of Germany), to get our downloads because they already had Fiber Optics(and i had a measly ISDN lol)

That was a blast... downloading 600MB in around 3 minutes :-)

I believe it will take another couple years for this to become public available even it is already used by Universities and Research Center and even Hospitals(remote surgeries)

But i can wait :-)

As far it comes to domains, i believe everything stays the same...no need for something else then the tld or information sites...but i could be wrong :-)

Cheers,

Frank

I saw this story the other day. I think we all know that something will eventually replace the internet, and that something would be very much like the grid. This may be that future technology, but we are still a few years out as of yet.

The good news from it is that things will speed up and they're will still be a need for web design and hosting as it stands right now.

I actually already hold gridhosting.us - I picked up with the grid hosting concept that was coming together in hosting, was thinking about letting it drop because it hasn't quite caught on, but with this announcement, it's probably better to hold on to it.
