Huge virus?

This is really weird okay a friend called me about 30 minutes ago asking for some help since his computer keeps getting shut down by remote produdure something or another. Basically you get a minute to save all of your stuff then your computer turns off, I was like well thats bad news, just go to a tech shop. Well about 20 minutes ago the downstairs computer started showing the SAME EXACT message and its NEVER had any problems like that before. Now Im afraid its a big virus since neither of us had firewalls that were any good AND Im afraid theyre getting it from AOL lol since they were on it when it happened and so Im staying off AOL until then lol.

I suggest you follow this link: http://filext.com/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=568. That is how I figured out my problem. Wanna know my history with it?

I have been getting an error about a file called TFTP916 and that windows can not open this file. I have also been getting an error saying "Windows must now restart because the Remote Procedure Call service terminated unexpectedly". I never connected the two till I read this article: http://filext.com/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=568. I suggest you all read this article, and determine whether you too may be experiencing it. I posted the link here in case there are any further developments. If you are experiencing this problem, I suggest you follow the directions given explicitly. I also suggest you format your drive to further help in the containment and elimination of this nuisance. Thanks.

I hoped that helped you guys. I really suggest you read the WHOLE article. It told me a lot about the problem.

Thank you Suzume, that's good information.

The best advice I saw in that post was
Quote:
These attacks will only increase over time unless people IMMEDIATELY download and install the Windows patch described above. You can further help yourself by installing a firewall of some sort between you and the Internet. There are a number of free software firewalls that work just fine. Two, in particular, are often mentioned...

Sygate Personal Firewall - http://www.sygate.com/
Zone Alarm by ZoneLabs - http://www.zonelabs.com/
I use Zone Alarm, it's quite good. (And free)

I use ZoneAlarm - but use this often to remove those that get those bugs and bots that get thru:

http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10...ml?tag=lst-0-1

"SpyBot - Search and Destroy" works fine, but needs getting used to.

Its not really a virus Id say more of a hackers loophole.
