I think I'm fooling myself because I'm not using them properly, but I am able to eat flawlessly with them.

When I do use them, they are a great way to eat slowly.

I can use them, but I agree, sometimes it's just easier to stab the meat

I can now. I kinda sorta knew how before I got married to my husband(Vietmese born and raised).
After a few times of having dinner with his parents. His mother asked for my chopsticks and put a rubber band at one end of my sticks. Said it would help with control of the sticks. I learned very quickly, especially if I was hungry and it was something I liked how to use them. I think it took like 3 full meals before I was a functional chopstick user. By all means does not mean I am expert yet.
Yes I did catch a fly with a pair of chopsticks ONCE!! It was done out of a running joke with my husband. Never could do it again. It was a fluck.

Probably a bit too small to use them as drum sticks.

I use chopsticks with oriental food (Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese) mostly just for the experience. They're no more or less efficient than modern utensils in my view.
