Thumbs up NamePros contribute to the fight against cancer.

NamePros contribute to the fight against cancer.

In the Netherlands (DutchLand) on the WHT www.WebHostingTalk.nl forum I was in the WHT-Team for the fight against cancer. Most of the 4100 members at WHT are WebHosters and have one or more computer(s) we have a lot of members who are donating there processor time for the fight against cancer. This all is regulated by Grid.org.

What is Grid.org?
Grid.org is a single destination site for large-scale research projects powered by the United Devices grid computing solution, Grid MP Global. From the Cancer Research Project sponsored by Intel and the University of Oxford to the Anthrax Research Project sponsored by Intel and Microsoft, the Grid MP Global @ grid.org has been put to use for research and analysis projects of groundbreaking scope. With the participation of over 2 million devices worldwide, grid.org projects driven by the Grid MP Global have achieved record levels of speed and success in processing data. They booked results already!

I took the liberty to make a NamePros Team at Grid.org: http://www.grid.org/services/teams/t...8-20D9F6B5CFF4
Here NamePros members can bundle there strength with Donating Computer Power for Research against Cancer.

To promote the NamePros team, copy the web address below, paste it into your e-mails, and send it to your friends. Or if you operate a web site post a link to the address on your pages so you can spread the word about the NamePros team with others.

All they have to do is download: http://www.grid.org/download/gold/download.htm and install the UD software and then go to this page to join your team: http://www.grid.org/services/teams/t...8-20D9F6B5CFF4

You can download UD Agent here:
http://www.grid.org/download/gold/download.htm

You can become a member here:

I am the first Member ( I had to drop out the WHT-Team )
I am giving away 100 $NP to the first 10 Member (10 $NP per Member).
Please PM me with your User name at Grid and I will send you the 10 $NP. Conditions: You have to have a minimum of 2 days of CPU time, Good luck and thank you very much.
I hope we can create a large Team to make a difference.

--------------------------------------------------------------

How it works
The Grid MP Global @ grid.org is a virtual supercomputer that can be harnessed to power computational research and analysis projects on a massive scale. By combining millions of online CPUs worldwide to work on extremely large computational projects, problems can be solved more quickly and less expensively than by conventional methods. Now any networked computer can help fuel research and projects that previously may have required a bank of supercomputers or a hundred years to complete.

Join grid.org and make a difference
To become a member of grid.org and participate in these important grid computing projects, simply download a free, non-invasive software program that works as a screensaver. It runs when your computer has idle processing time. Your computer never leaves your desk and the project never interrupts your normal PC use. Grid.org lets you make a real difference without donating money or time, with the system that you are using to view this site right now-your home or office PC.

News
On February 5, United Devices along with IBM and Accelrys launched the Smallpox Research Grid Project, a joint research effort to identify candidates for developing new drugs that, for the first time, would combat the smallpox virus post-infection. The first counter-bioterrorism project to be powered by United Devices was the Anthrax Research Project. Working with scientists from Oxford University, United Devices provided its Grid MP Global technology to screen billions of molecules for suitability as potential treatments for advanced-stage Anthrax.

A global effort to combat bioterrorism
The threat of bioterrorism affects people worldwide. From distant continents to the house next door we're all susceptible to the potential impact of a bioterrorist attack, where the enemy is an unseen biological agent with no known cure. That's why United Devices established the PatriotGrid: A family of research projects designed specifically to identify new leads for cures to diseases that are known to be potential weapons of bioterrorism.

The Threat
Terrorists select agents designed to infect humans with debilitating diseases such as anthrax and smallpox for which cures do not exist. Because many of these deadly agents are available on a growing scale, creating a defense by identifying new leads for cures is a global priority. Unfortunately, with conventional computational screening methods, drug leads take years to discover and develop into viable treatments. The proven technology behind the PatriotGrid By using the Grid MP Global @ grid.org, research groups can speed their lead-finding processes dramatically shaving years off the timeline for developing new treatments. The Grid MP Global has been utilized in drug discovery projects of similar scope including the groundbreaking Cancer Research Project (with Intel & the National Foundation for Cancer Research) and the Anthrax Research Project (with Intel, Microsoft and the University of Oxford).

How You Can Help
By supporting the PatriotGrid, your PC will help power counter-bioterrorism related drug discovery & projects. Signing up means participating in all new projects that fall under this important category. So you're not just joining a project, you're joining a cause. To participate, simply download a free, non-invasive software program that works as a screensaver. It runs when your computer has idle processing time. Your computer never leaves your desk and the project never interrupts your normal PC use.

@NH-Benjamin,

United Devices is a corporation, that is true. However, the grid.org site exists to run their public projects, all of which are currently running on a non-profit basis. Concerning the Cancer Project, here is the Intellectual Property statement: http://www.chem.ox.ac.uk/cancer/ipstatement.html

The University of Oxford and the NFCR will own the results; United Devices will have nothing to do with them.

Thank you for your opinion,

I suggest doing further research I knew the former CTO of United Devices and all research would be sold ask around on forums.

Folding@Home is non-profit though!

I'm not suggesting you stop just stating your efforts will only be profited from and sold to companies like pfizer.

@NH-Benjamin,

How can you be so sure how one can ever be sure - 100% sure - of anything. Can you be sure that the sun will rise tomorrow? Just because it has done so for million of years, does not make it 100% sure that it will do it tomorrow. There are still people who firmly believes that the Earth is flat, that the Apollo expeditions to the moon was a scam, and that life is fair. Prove - Really, prove, that SETI is not a CIA scam setup to divert attention from the aliens captured at Area 51.

I always do my research only my research information is from today and not from a former somebody. Maybe you should check the financial records of UD.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=42533

UD does NOT know the results. They are sent to Oxford University who are the only ones to translate the results; they own them, not UD. UD may be entitled to some kind of tax-break from the US authorities. If UD suddenly turns around, and begins to profit from grid.org, then rest assured that they would get the US Internal Revenue Service on their backs So it is impossible for UD to sell information as you imply

Even if (it’s NOT) the results are sold for profit later on, I believe that it will help humanity more to get rid of cancer. And that’s what this Topic is about. I gladly want to take this discussion further but NOT on this Thread, if you still feel the need to argue please open a new topic and let us try to help people without having to explain everything in detail over and over to people like you who are ruining this topic.

BACK ON TOPIC:
I still got some $NP te give away, so Members of NamePros show you care and HELP us make a fist against cancer.

Thx a lot in advance,

OK, come one people we have 9,216 Members at the moment at NamePros, I only have 6 Members who are so kind and willing to join the fight against cancer.

What is the matter with you people, I did the same thing in the Netherlands at WHT and I did reach more than a 100 Member out of 2000? so I was hoping on at least 100 out of 9000, because we in Europe are more willing to help other people so it seems.

So think about it and join this very good system to help find a cure for cancer and other diseases.

Thx a lot!

Hello
I'm an aquaintance of Ber|Art from the Grid.org bulletin board. We are thrilled with every new member, and Berrie has done a great job of dragging in new recruits.
I have been running this program for over 3 1/2 trouble free years. It runs in the background using ONLY UNUSED CYCLES. If you are working with, or playing on your computer it will back down, and you will never know it is there. My sons and I play some very demanding games, and simulators, yet we do nothing except start the game, and we have never had a problem.
The security aspects have been thoroughly scrutinized, and no problems have been found.
To put in terms I understand: Cancer tricks our body into cooperating with it. It sends out a signal, and our bodies build blood vessels directly to the tumor. It sends out another signal when it has enough. It does this by releasing certain proteins. Our computers are trying to analyze the makeup of these proteins so that they can be reproduced or neutralized.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=42533
This could lead to the end of the CUT [surgery] , POISON [chemotherapy], and BURN [radiation] methods we use today.

I don't think of it as distributed computing.
I think of it as a TIME MACHINE!
I cannot change the past.
BUT I WILL CHANGE THE FUTURE!

Thank you for taking the time to read my post, and please feel free to look in to our forum at

Just to reassure you, Its absolute magic. I can't remember it ever affecting any program.
I'm addicted to flight sims, with scenery and graphics cranked all the way up.
My sons play a wide variety of online multiplayer games. Sometimes they host games.
Never a problem.

If you would like a more detailed explanation about the research, here is a link to a PBS TV program about research that closely parallels what we are doing;
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/cancer/program.html
I think you will find it fascinating.
