Around October my Son Ethan, has to go in for surgery and I am looking for fund raising ideas. Im basically looking for ways of raising money so I can make his room all high tech to help him with the months of recovery and intensive physio he will need to go through.
My Son has a condition known as Cerebral Palsy (Spastic Diplegia), which is brain damage which affects his muscles. Ethan is a full time wheelchair user. He needs the surgery to stop his Hips Dislocating which would cause Extreme pain and mean that he would no longer being able to sit down.
Im going to be setting up a blog for him on EthanAllen.info which will contain more information about, his condition, etc.
It sounds corny but place coin donation jars around your local area with a label and description of what its for. My son was hospitalized with Leukemia for 1 year straight and we received a very large donation using this method which greatly helped us in our time of need.
Those are surprisingly effective, actually. Donation jars were a big source of funds for a family friend that was diagnosed with cancer.
They also held a walk-a-thon (you could try something similar) in our local park that drew hundreds of people. If you charge a few dollars and get some community sponsors to provide t-shirts and refreshments, you'll have a great fund raising event, as well as attracting media, which would open you up to more donations.
