Dollar Coin Error Worth $$
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- An unknown number of new George Washington dollar coins were mistakenly struck without their edge inscriptions, including "In God We Trust," and made it past inspectors and into circulation, the U.S. Mint said Wednesday.
Bailey said it was unknown how many coins didn't have the inscriptions. Ron Guth, president of Professional Coin Grading Service, one of the world's largest coin authentication companies, said he believes that at least 50,000 error coins were put in circulation.
"The first one sold for $600 before everyone knew how common they actually were," he said. "They're going for around $40 to $60 on eBay now, and they'll probably settle in the $50 range."

In that case, my chemistry teacher made my entire class criminals. We all plated copper coins with zinc. Shiney!

I think a US penny is actually worth 5 cents.
The problem with the messed up dollar coins is that you have to know it is. Most people who just randomly get them will have no idea they could get $50 for it.

Oops! My Dad's friend just used one in a lottery machine. He said it was weird how the new money doesn't say "In God We Trust".... but it's gone now!

I got about $10 worth (not the errors) the last time I was at the bank and got tired of explaining to store clerks they were real (most never heard of them) so haven't been back to get more..
I don't like the new coin much.. looks cheesy, like an arcade token to me..

I don't know why they thought this $1 coin would work out after the 1,000 previous ones didn't.

I'll be looking out for them. I havn't seen any of these new coins yet, but if I come across one I'll make sure I check for "In God We Trust".

That was the total amount that were made. They believe 50k error coins were made.

Yes, 50k is the estimated amount of the wrrors.. and I think they all come from the Philadelphia mint.
I got a fresh roll from the bank today to check thru.. no luck!
Then I went to KFC and used a few to pay for my meal and they hadn't even heard of the new coin yet and questioned me on them!

Anyone have a pic of the coin and the error coin?
The ones I looked at on Wikipedia are the regular coins but I still dont see the "In God We Trust". Is it suppose to be on the edge of the coin, like the side?
EDIT: I guess it is on the side. And I just watched one of these coins sell for $181.50 on ebay seconds ago.
I've also seen this coin on ebay but with "In God We Trust" upside down. They aren't selling for anything though. Is there even such thing?
