Yahoo! News - Bush's New Plan

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070107...o_pr_wh/us_iraq
Quote:
"Based on the advice of current and former military leaders, we believe this tactic would be a serious mistake," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said in the Democratic radio address Saturday. Instead, Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi want Bush to begin pulling troops out in four to six months.

"Our troops and their families have already sacrificed a great deal for Iraq," Reid said. "They have done their part. It's time for the Iraqis to do their part."

How long has this war been going on? And Bush wants to send in more troops? Indeed it is the Iraqis' turn to take control of their own country. If you ask me, US prescence is just plain imperialism under a guise of good-intentions.

There was a time when the US could have left and things would have been fine. They missed that time, and are too far in to pull out now. Leaving now would leave a huge problem. The fact that ANY soldiers are dieing should be enough to show you it isn't safe there.

Responsible for the deaths of thousands but you traded up to Saddam instead. I'll never understand that...

Although saying that, he's probably locked up in one of your secret jails somewhere. Being worked on day and night hopefully.

Not to get off-topic, but the rumor was: we made a deal to turn the other cheek re: Osama, in exchange for Iraq al-Qaida leader Abu Musab al-Zargawi. The CIA shut down their unit, we got Zargawi, and you hear nothing further about the hunt for Bin Laden. Fact or fiction?

They had control of their country than we had to go in and muck it all up. I'm not saying life under Saddam was good but why did we bother to begin with? In the beginning this was suposed to last what, 6 months? That was back in 2003, honestly I don't see an end anytime soon. At least this is bush's last term...

I'm hoping Bush's final legacy is a lasting resolution to the Iraqi conflict.. it'd certainly help clean up his resume a bit IMO.

"It is unknowable how long that conflict will last. It could last six days, six weeks. I doubt six months."
-- Donald Rumsfeld

"I think things have gotten so bad inside Iraq, from the standpoint of the Iraqi people, my belief is we will, in fact, be greeted as liberators. . . . I think it will go relatively quickly, . . . (in) weeks rather than months."
-- Dick Cheney

Do you think they ever thought that this supposed 6 weeks could turn out how it has?

I think if they had of listened to anyone who was smart they would have know with great certainty this would have lasted as long as it has.

This was just a part of their lies and smoke screens to take the US into an illegal and immoral war that had nothing to do with the real war on terror.
