An entire 800 man Baghdad police brigade has been scrapped following reports they have been turning a blind eye toward or aiding death squads aimed at Sunnis:
I saw on the news recently claims that people are getting tortured or killed at a faster rate than when Saddam Hussein was in power. The current government have already been found to be torturing prisoners and holding them illegally.
I would hope that there is a lot going on behind the scenes that is actually moving the Iraqi government somewhat forward. Although I tend to feel the same way...that the war can never be won...I do believe that the Iraqi's want the bloodshed to stop which may actually lead to a positive change when they realize that they actually have some of that power to make it stop. I think they need to find that their voices will be heard. Then things might change.
I guess the tough part is that it's hard to change thoughts, opinions, and attitudes quickly. Time needs time.

I hear ya.. problem is, what the Iraqi people want and what the Iraqi government want will definitely turn out to be two separate things.. I think Iraq is this generations Vietnam: unwinnable.
