What is the Best Browser?

I've just began to try out Opera. I'd like to hear some of the Pro's and Con's of Opera, Mozilla, and IE.

If you have any horror stories, please let me read them.

My favorite is Smart Explorer from www.smarteque.com It uses IE as the back end, but adds a lot of nice features.

Opera is nice too once you get used to it.

I must have 10+ browser windows open at any given time so having tabs is very nice.

I like the tabs, too, RJ. But, I never liked Mozilla for some reason. Thanks for the new browser name. I'll check it out.

Really like Opera, but acts up at some sites. I like Mozilla-highly customizable, no fat. Open source progs (I use Thunderbird for email client) have always impressed me as being a tweakers medium.
I use IE and am currently testing out Wysigot on front end.

Odd that Netscape isnt among your choices, since it still has the 2nd largest market share. Anyway, I use Netscape 7, and particularly enjoy the tabbed interface.

Your post made me wonder enough to find out. Here's a succinct explanation that I found (from http://www.bilkent.edu.tr/~fast/mozilla/node1.html ):

Quote:
For most practical purposes, Mozilla is Netscape. To be more precise, Netscape takes some of the most useful and stable elements of Mozilla and adds a few extra features (e.g. access to Netscape mail accounts and spellchecking1). Similarly, the Mozilla project contains a load of programs and features that aren't included in the standard Mozilla installation (which is virtually the same as Netscape).
I learned something today!

Good info. I learned a little more about it, too.

I'm going to have to check on the add-on features a little more.

????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/the-break-room/23270-what-is-the-best-browser.html
I think IE users are busy navigating as opposed to spending their time at Mozilla or Opera help groups looking for the latest plug-in (that will do something that IE already does), "chrome", JSLib, a favlet or some other strangely named browser function that doesn't work correctly.
Am I defending a M$N product? Gag me w/ a spoon.

I've been using Opera for about a week now. I haven't had to download any plugins, yet. But, I probably have more limited browsing habits than some. One of the reasons that I decided to try some others is to break that dirty MSN habit. When I do settle on a browser I thought I would give linux a test drive, too.

Overall, Opera is organizationaly and aesthetically more pleasing to me than IE, and may go back or use along w/ IE. My biggest problem isn't w/ it as much as it is w/ the time already invested in IE to learn it's ideosyncracies and to "customize" IE to my liking. There are a few things I can do w/ IE, that I can't do *in the same way* w/ Opera (ie drag a link from address pane to link folder that I have created and positioned adjacently to Tbar. ).

As time goes on, am getting more set in ways and am dedicating less and less time to the OS.

Grrilla,

I take it that you have used Opera in the past. Did you use their Mail program or stick with Outlook. I haven't tryed the Opera mail because of all of the time I have in setting up Outlook Express. I was just wondering Opera has similar screening tools.

I used Opera email a little and, as I recall, it seemed more integrated than OE/IE, but I am by no means an expert on this. I haven't used OE for a long time. I used IncrediMail for a couple of years and got tired of it screwing up and having to redownload. Plus, it's a little "fru-fru" for my tastes. I have been using Thunderbird (Mozilla stand alone client) for some time, and am happy w/ it. The Opera forum (avail direct from Opera toolbar), is a very good and active one. Usually get an answer to questions within a few minutes.

I had not heard of Thunderbird. I'll have to take a look at it. Thanks.

I've been playing with Firefox (Mozilla). It seems slow to me. Is this something others here have experienced, or is it just my machine?

I hope you're joking! Mozilla comes with a pop-up blocker, which is very handy. Mind you, I still use both, but IE doesn't block pop-ups!
