IPB charging $15 for license transfers.

(this is probably the wrong forum but...)

I just thought I'd let every know that IPB now charges $15 for IPB license transfers, however it's not listed anywhere.

I didn't know about this and sold a license earlier today, and I am having to pay the difference as I already sold the license to a member here for a certain amount.

Just thought I'd let everyone know about this for they will not encounter the same problem I did.

Stephen

Hello,

There is a $15 charge for a license transfer. This is to stop an increasing amount of fraudulent transactions. Would you like an invoice now in order to proceed?

Regards,

Wow, I personally do not use IPB, but that does sound like quite a rip off, especially if its not posted anywhere. It sounds like they are only further encouraging people to distribute the licenses illegally, if they charge $15 to do so legally. Doesn't make much sense to me, but thanks for sharing.

Tried to get them to waive it for me, as I would be losing $15, however they wouldn't.

I did let them know that it would be extremely wise to let the IPB community know that there is a $15 transfer fee, and that it isn't very professional to impose a $15 fee without letting people know about the fee to transfer a license beforehand.

They should have it posted somewhere, or perhaps even create a new FAQ about license transfers.

However, I am not about to make the buyer of the license pay the $15, after we agreed upon a certain amount, as that would not be right on my part.

I'd like to personally thank IPB for stealing $15 from me.

That's illegal to do according to IPB and can result in immediate termination of the license.

15 bucks is peanuts. Someone has to go through and process that transfer request. It should be posted, yes, however....for 15 bucks there should be no reason to complain as they could just say "No license transfers, period".

If it was your employee doing the license changes, and you were paying them then you would want to recoup that money as well.

I agree - $15 isn't too bad.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=183166

However, it isn't right that they didn't notify everyone in the change tha there is now a $15 transfer charge.

Only reason I am angry with them right now is due to I am having to pay an UNEXPECTED $15.

If it's for security then make it $5 and everyone will shut up. There are other ways of verifying other than asking for even more money. I'm a big fan of the IPS product line, but this would piss the sh*t out of me. They definitely should put that in a very obvious place.

As I said, it's a fee I'm paying due to the fact we made the sale for a fixed price.

Submitted the payment last night, and they should email you with the information to access the license shortly I would assume.

Sending the NP$ back. Use it to promote your forum.

Simpy started this thread to alert Namepros members of the fee, for they can modify their future sales price of IPB licenses accordingly.

On another note, I also received this response from IPB:

Quote:
I will pass on your comments to Management and will ensure that the recommendation of announcing this decision is known.
This also shows that it was indeed not posted anywhere.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=183166

Hopefully they will have it posted somewhere very obvious for customers to see soon.

Thanks for the notification.

I appreciate the warning and I'll definitely be going vB for certain the next time I need a forum license. A fee is a fee and they have every right to charge what they want but I have every right to go elsewhere. This was a truly poor job of letting customers know it and quite frankly it just seems to me that IPB is becoming more and more of a money hog. This is coming from a repeat customer as well not just a guy with a license or two.

I'd rather pay the extra vB initial dollars and then have the ability to transfer it later.
