NamePros Radio?

In the past there has been threads suggesting a radio, umming and arring.

Well, lets hope this thread will be the last.
What i am proposing is an Unofficial Namepros Radio, Run by the members for the members.

What will this mean?
When browsing namepros (hay, even when your not) you will be able to listen to legal music, member interviews, tips tricks etc from the pros.

hay, there are no plans yet.

What does it involve?
Well, this wont be free, chances are we will have to charge for ads.
This will go towards the server and the legal tracks we will have to buy.

I can donate my server basicaly, currently only has 100GB of bandwidth so i would have to upgrade that, it has ShoutCast installed, but we can decide what system we want to use?

So Up for discussion

A) Do we even want a radio? (Cleared by RJ)
B) How would we fund it?
C) How would be run it?
D) what software would we use?
E) What would we have on it (Music licenseing is a problem)

I personaly think a radio would be awesome.
Your opinions would be good on this

Will downloading the music from somewhere like napster Etc not be enough to cover us then?

If not, anyone know about where to obtain this license and the costs involved?

You will need a license for any track.

I think a digital radio license costs about £100 a year.

but... what kind of music would be playing? I'm not a big fan of radios because most of the time I really dont like the songs they are playing. Also namepros is a domain/web design/internet discussion forum, why would we have a radio to play MUSIC?

Yeah, it sounds like a good idea, but would be a lot of work, and not many would use it.

there are so many genres of music that we can't just focus on one... i think we should have a radio similar to godaddy's radio.. where someone taking the place of bob parsons would discussion domains, web design, etc etc...

we can listen to music or radios elsewhere.. tuning in to our favorite station or whatever. There's no sense making yet another radio for music.

I was thinking the same thing, Scrap music, that removes our primary problem.

MUCH less overheads.

Why not run a shorter slot each day or whatever simply with tips/interviews/comps whatever?

Nice idea,

I probably wouldnt listen to it as I dont have much of a taste for music

, but there could be quite a large bandwidth consumption with it.

not many people would make use of it...

Well, music is a big problem licensing and things, so throughout the week why not prepare a few hour show for over the weekend, interviews and talking etc.

Would any members be prepared to TALK?

Or, we COULD look deeper into music licensing, but if people want music why not just listen to another radio show, if we just do a talk show devoted to namepros im sure more people would listen to it?

I have to say playing music is not the best idea. To many legalities and why cant people simply switch onto their local radio station or Music Channel via Sky so they can get their own genre.

However, i do agree with somekind of chatshow type thing with domaining talk and stuff - would be pretty cool me thinks

It would probably involve pre recording it and then just streaming it like a music track.

Im sure i can find a live transfer thing though.

Yep, just a talkshow. Please PM morph for information on becoming a part of the broadcasting crew. Remember, unless you have a licence to broadcast music, you will just have to stick with a chat show.
