Plan to block porn sites sparks outrage

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A pioneering strategy to stem online child pornography is threatening Internet stability because it blocks Web surfers visiting innocent sites located in the same virtual neighborhoods as those peddling illegal porn, a prominent civil liberties group says.

In a precusor to a possible legal challenge, the Washington-based Center for Democracy and Technology said it will try Thursday to compel Pennsylvania's attorney general to disclose new details about unusual efforts in that state forcing Internet providers to block visits to Web sites containing child pornography.

Lawyers for the group compared the technique to disrupting mail delivery to an entire apartment complex over one tenant's illegal actions.

Sounds like a dumb law to me. I agree that child pornography should not exist, but they need to punish the people who are creating it not the innocent users who have nothing to do with it. I say punish the criminals not the innocent! I don't really know exactly how it works though, but that's what I think from what I do know.

Porn only hurts society, not help.
They should move forward with these plans, and any porn sites that get blocked are SOL...

Nobody will miss them, anyway.
It's not like there isn't an over abundance of porn on the web.

I think child pornography should be kept between the children, one child to another

hah, dark!

I could go two ways on this:

1.) You can say goodbye to Geocities and other big servers, because they have too many people on their servers to find every last child pornography site on a daily basis.

2.) On the other hand, this law would make it so owners of web server companies are more likely to police the sites on their servers to make sure there is no child pornography.

Honestly, though, I would guess your average child pornography site, or any other site that services illegal stuff would be on a homemade server.

heh, i'm only a child myself (well... 16 years old) so if a girl wants to send me personalized porn i'm not going to stop her. Well, depending on if shes cute and i actually know who she is, but thats getting a little off topic.

They arn't going to get rid of Childpornography because Kazaa and all those p2p networks are full of the stuff. They come in "sets" a long horizontal string of pictures, one after another themed by the type of children used. I accedentally downloaded a few once while looking for decent porn.

okay I think we all agree that child pornography should be banned, and well those who don't agree, personally your sick, just my feelings on it.
It's just going to be hard for them to stop all pornography on the net, I mean who is really going to sit down and actually go through all the content in every site on every server out there? That would take way too much time for anyone to do.

lol dark you're probably right, but seriously, there is too much of it out there, and it would take way too long to find it all.
