Lightscribe Technology

Have you heard about this? New DVD - CD burner laser etches the label into the CD surface... really cool! Tiger Direct has an external USB model for $139. Cheaper ones on eBay as usual! Gonna get one!

not really new.... but they are kinda cool. you DO need special discs in order to use it, however they will still burn normal discs. IMO rather costly for bulk work, however it would be nice if you needed a couple of cds with nice designs on them. until the price comes down however, it isnt realistic for any sort of bulk production.

(p.s. i've had one of these in my desktop for about a year now)

Discs are cheaper on eBay.. even at approx. $1 a piece, these are nice for custom work or presentations.. not to mention, if you're charging $20 and up for a CD, $1 per disc doesn't seem like much.

And the special discs are only required if you plan to flip them to burn a label, otherwise they will burn normal discs just fine.

Internal drives of this sort can be found as cheap as $60. online. Externals are around $75.

Heard about these some time back. I've been meaning to buy one but haven't had time yet.
If I remember right, a friend has one, I should ask him to do a demonstration for me.

you dont exactly need special disks u just need a DVD burner with that technology and that can burn em. all you do is flip the disc and it lightly carves the design into the face of the dvd.

oh and a cd burner should also work

Actually, from my understanding, special discs using special dyes are required.

Not exactly "black and white", they do grey scale which is better.

I too heard of this a while back. From the reviews I read, it wasn't THAT great, although still impressive. I'm just going to wait until they come out with color technology. How exactly the're going to do that, I have no clue.

My sister just got one of those and it looks pretty cool. You do have to use special disks, though, so I haven't seen it done yet. No idea how much the disks cost - I'll probably just keep using a Sharpie.

They seem to run about $1 a piece retail.. less on eBay.

Found a real cheap place where you can get CD's which work for this system.. Around 40cents each.

Newegg.com.

Might consider getting an external drive, as all I have now is a cdrw, not a dvd-rw. If I do, I'll let you all see the CD's I make.

Meant DVD-R's.

Here's the link.

Best of all, NewEgg.com accepts Paypal as a payment method.

I don't see where they say Lightscribe is supported.. Lightscribe requires disks with special dyes.

I'd much rather buy the DVD-R's, as they hold more, and are just a few dollars cheaper, plus it's 20 more.
