Notebook repair

Can anyone offer guidance? The standard service centers (Bestbuy, Radioshack, etc.) are costly and I lack confidence in their abilities. What are some alternative places to turn to for repairs?

Any local computer repair shops might be a bit cheaper, but in general laptops are more expensive to fix than desktops. As parts for them cost more.
