Ebay: Private Listings = Shill Bids?

if in a private listing you don't know who else is bidding on the item, how can you ensure that shill bidding doesn't take place? I had the STRANGEST auction take place over the weekend with a private listing. I was watching an auction that had 0 bidders. At about 1 minute 30s left into the auction i placed a bid. Refresh after Refresh, i though i had it, only to find that i was outbid. Extremely pissed, i wanted to see who snipped the item from me, but i couldn't see who it was.

A couple days later, i got a second chance offer, (this was an e product) which i accepted cuz i really wanted the item...but now i'm wondering if i was dupped...how can you tell if shill bidding occurs in private auctions?

Try contacting eBay and see what they say?

Firstly, id ask the person to tell me or not. And if he doesnt give me the information i have (proof), id threaten to give him negative feed back. And in the note, id tell them that he shillbids.
