Technically speaking Example Web Page is a subdomain of example.com.

Noticed the title www or without www then read the question.
PHP Code:
[url=http://www.example.com]Example Web Page[/url] and example.com
So if I understand correctly..you want to know if there is a difference between using
PHP Code:
www.example.com and example.com
in your coding/links etc

All I can suggest is that you either use one version or other all the time! Sometime you might get different results when you use "www" and then you don't!

Of course I am sure that there are a few members here who can give a better explanation!

P.s Welcome to the forum!

Hi Green789,

Not sure if this is the right part of the forum for this question, however the comments above are true Example Web Page is basically as sub domain of example.com. From what I understand www is used to let people/the browser know that it is a webpage rather than say the address for the mail server. mail.example.com or pop3.example.com.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=622636

While it is important to ensure you use either www or not consistently it is equally important to make sure which ever you use the other redirects to the true page. This can be done using a "301 redirect "in the .htaccess file. Which is a file on your server which automatically tells the browser to go to what ever file/page you tell it. This is as far as my knowledge goes I'm sure someone will have a better explaination.

It is amazing how many companies actually dont know this or use it.

From my understanding, the reason it's important to use one or the other (with or without www) is because a search engine will see [www . example . com] as something different than [example . com].

So if some of your links are going to one, while the rest are going to the other, you're getting half the seo rewards. If all of your focus goes into one, you'll have more links to that url, which can help your ranking.

I've seen huge corp site NOT even work if you don't put www in front.
Whoever is in charge of such site deserve to get fired.

You can use www or without, but, for SEO sake, be sure to use just one and utilize .htaccess file
as you are dividing your Page Rank when you use both.

I prefer to register my domains without paying the extra for the optional www., though sometimes I do purchase the ".".

Okay, all kidding aside, what I've been reading lately has tended to favor using the Example Web Page version and redirecting Example.com to the www. version.

It's somewhat of an epic battle - www. vs. Example.com - but at least according to Jane and Robot (Vanessa Fox) it looks like robot is happy with www. right now.

Some email client need the 'www' to turn the domain name into a clickable URL. It is another example of why www are needed. I usually direct domain without www to the one with www.

Generally speaking, www and without should point to same IP address.
