But the sheer power of a 'buyout' in the domain community seems to make for instant profit, so with smaller numbers of .net and only 45% left, it is yet another 'domain fashion' opportunity to profit from as soon as all LLLL.nets sell out
On the other hand the most desirable of the 5 letter.com pronounceable domain names in IMO are already gone!!

I agree, the best of the best of 5L.com is gone, I am glad i began to register 5L.com 3 years ago, I was able to snag some pretty nice ones, The same with LLLL.com, Regged the bulk of mine in late 2004 and early 2005, so i have some pretty decent 4L.coms aswell

If I needed to pick up an available domain for a development project today:
I'd take a great LLLLL.com. They are there if you just take several minutes to look. Rather than a half-decent LLLL.net you need to s-t-r-e-t-c-h to be loosely related to the website at all.
However, it seems like a buyout is much closer in sight for LLLL.net than LLLLL.com. If you ask me, LLLL.net is the safer investment than LLLLL.com if you're planning to make a flip on the reseller market. All the quad premium LLLL.net are gone but if you pick a few triple-premium LLLL.net that are not too bad then you're unlikely to lose your reg-fee. If you decide to get out quickly, then you might make a few bucks. If you're patient and wait at least several months, you could make a healthy profit.
Still, I don't recommend dumping your money into LLLL.net en-masse at this point unless you're confident and you can promise yourself you will definitely hold on to the domains for more than one year. If you try to liquidate your inventory too soon after, then you're unlikely to make a profit that's worth your time because buyers expect a good discount when you're making a bulk deal. I'd definitely not recommend maxing out credit cards to buy up LLLL.net if you can't afford to pay it off in full when the bill comes (credit card interest rates are scary, they can eat up your profits very quickly OR worse you could plunge into mountains of debt if anything goes sour).
You'll need to be even more selective when it comes to LLLLL.com. There are many, many still available so only take the best of the best. The LLLLL.com buyout will probably not come for at least 2/3 years. LLLLL.com may take up to several years to get bought out, or they might never be! The risk is very real when you buy LLLLL.com, especially in bulk. They are not a quick flip, generally. You could never see the reg fees again if you pick any names that are less than the best of the best.
Addition: I believe L-LL/LL-L.com represent the BEST investment opportunity at the moment that you can still get in on (at reg fee). Hurry up and I look forward to seeing you in the thread below! http://www.namepros.com/393482-offi...l-ll-ll-28.html
if i was branding a website i'd go with LLLLL.com
It seems like you want to know which is the better investment though. in that case, LLLL.nets are definitely the better investment opportunity.
Let's be realistic. There is little to zero chance of a buyout of LLLLL.com. There will be buyouts for CVCVC.com, or VCVCV.com or other pronounceable combinations but buyout for the entire LLLLL.com, is almost impossible.

No one considers waiting for a buying to see the worth and potential of 5L.com's
I have already sold many, more then I can ever sell a 4L.net for right now.
I have sold 5 is the past 2 weeks, ranging from $30-60 - and I sold 1 on Sedo for $100
Personally I see potential for end users, brandable names for development potential and more with 5 Letter .com's - with 4L.net all I see is a lame struggle trying to follow the .com so people can TRY and make the same amount of ROI as the .com investors did.
I prefer 5L.com's if I want the name for a new site I'll be developing as there is a lot of choice left while choosing your own 5L.com.
Albeit, a 4L.net would be obtainable but a decent pronounceable at reg fee? I don't think so.
