All LLLL.coms were gone in the year 2000. But many keep becoming available. Keeping them gone would be like trying to hold back the sunrise.

Uhh I think St.Easy is confused with LLL.com's. As for 4 letter .com's, they'll be gone in under a year, probably 6 to 9 months.. I'd need to scan the # available again and compare it to my scan in late november to see the rate they are disappearing.

Yes.. that makes more sense. I figured he was thinking that.

Let us know the rate they are dropping, that would make for a nice prediction.

In late 2000 I searched for three days for available LLLL.coms. I searched through thousands and thousands and could not find any and nearly gave up looking. I kept going and finally found 1, more effort enabled me to find another and another until I had a grand total of 10. I was so pleased with myself because I tought they would be worth $1,000s each. A year or two later I was surprised to discovered they were large numbers of LLLL.coms available. There were so many available including some with good letters that I did not renew any of mine.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=156381

During the dot.com boom I remember seing an interview on television about one of the shakers of movers of the dot.com boom and I remember the interviewer saying to this person all the three and four-letter .com names were gone. This person said yes, and strangely enough he also added all the five letter .coms had gone. I don't know where he got this from because it has never been true.

There is no doubt around the peak of the .com boom all LLLL.coms were registered and not available.

I just can't believe that... all 456,000+ gone?
5 - 6 years ago registrations weren't so cheap ...

I'm sure there are articles on this if it's true. I'll have to find some.

This would be interesting, to see the rate they are disappearing or if they are dropping in larger number then new registrations. There's a nice list of all the avaiable LLLL.com at this address: http://www.avuw.com/llll_com.asp , compiled few days ago by a namepros user.
If you share the november data maybe we can predict something with more accuracy...
I guess (but maybe i'm wrong) that the 6/9 months are a bit too optimistics.

Quality LLLL.com combinations are going rapidly, and should be gone by Q2-3 of this year, with the remaining low quality names slowly dropping in availiability. Thus, quality will matter a lot more in the 4xL.coms in my view.

Its because a large company bought out the LLLL.coms, and later figured out the werent worth anything, and let them all drop. Just do a WHO Is check on all available ones, and you will see that they were all reg at one time.

I read an article once about a group who reserved masses of 4 letter domains in the past but never bought them. There was something about there being some facility where you could reserve a domain name for a period of time and buy later that it is not available today.

In June last year, I predicted 3 years (mid 2008). I think that it could be any time in the next 2.5 years but probably not in the next 6 months.

% of 4 number domains registered = 100% of 100000
% of 4 letter domains registered ~ 76% of 456976
% of 4 number/letter combinations registered ~ 12% of 1122640
number of 4 number/letter/hyphen combinations = 94608
(hyphen only in positions 2 and/or 3)

I never remember seeing all LLLL.com's registered.
Perhaps we need to seek -RJ-'s thoughts on this but I cant ever remember such a think. for example back in 2000 there were still many 3 LLL. net's and .org's avail
so I dont know why anyone would buy up all the 4 letters when there were still 3 letters.

I have to read more about this, but yesterday i've read this article on DNjournal:

"On a positive note, overall new domain registrations continued to grow close to 20% over last year," Cahn noted. "This was partly due to many registrars registering tens of thousands of domain names to test for traffic, then deleting those that did not perform within the 5 day grace period so they were not charged for the registrations"

To be honest, I didn't knew something similar was possible, and sound pretty unfair to me.
Maybe they did something like this in the 2001 for all the LLLL.coms..

My calculations are that around 4 thousand have been registered in the last 3 weeks. This was done by testing two samples of 2589 4 letter domains.

~102 thousand domains
~1300 registered per week

= 78 weeks till all registered.

I'm planning on routinely monitoring the number of domains to be aware of what the trends in registering 4 letter domains are. If your interested let me know.

I'm actually looking for more LLLL.com. PM me if you have any decent ones you are willing to part with.

I would be interested in knowing what LLLL.com's may be worth in a year's time. Most are only still about reg fee, but there are a few that are worth much more.
