Any value to one dynamic PHP page to thousands of individual pages?

I'm banging my head against the wall trying to figure out which direction I should go in regards to the URL string. Let's say you're developing a website about colors and your database has 1000 rows (i.e. different colors). I'm trying to figure out if there's any value to SEO in either of these two options...

(1)insertsitenamehere.com/color_details.php?color=red

(2) insertsitenamehere.com/color_details_red.html or insertsitenamehere.com/color_details_red.php

I would obviously like to do option one as i'm only dealing with one singe php page. I could write some simple code to create the thousand individual pages for option 2 but that takes away from my site being dynamic.

Google also seems to index invididual pages better, atleast for a few search strings I typed.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/search-engines/741788-any-value-one-dynamic-php-page.html

I'm hoping someone has ran into this before and can help me out.

Thanks!

Why not just do a rewrite? Thousands of pages from one. The only drawback I've seen is the spiders tend to pound a server if there are too many pages.
