Too many words in a single keyword domain: Does it hurt indexing?

From my personal experience it seems that the more words you have in a single keyword domain the harder it is to get it indexed for that keyword (unless of course there's zero competition for it at all as a result of being some obscure or non-existent term).

Examples:

Getting StockMarketInformation.net ranked for its respective term (I think is harder) as opposed to Stocks.net

For now ignore the obvious competition in both terms and just think of the question generically. Does having too many words in a single keyword domain hurt its chances at indexing?

No. Always check the source, Google. Some people give bad advice around here with certain number of character rules and such. For the term stock market information, as you can see: http://www.google.com/search?q=Stock...GLL_en___US388

You have 2 sites in the top 10 with all 3 of those words in the domain.

I do not believe for a second that it affects the rankings at all. If any thing it is going to help you rank for multiple words instead of one. Make sure you are getting information from reliable sources.

Cancer Survivorship
It doesn't matter one way or the other, but don't forget the domain is only one ranking factor.

If possible I would buy the exact phrase you are trying to target. So if you wanted to rank for christmas fruit baskets I would buy christmasfruitbaskets.com.

Also I recommend buying the plural form of the word because christmasfruitbaskets.com is an exact match for both christmas fruit basket and christmas fruit baskets

Even if Google's algorithms isn't prioritizing the exact match when other sites link to you their going to use the name of your site. So without even asking sites will link to you with the anchor text of your exact keyword.

Having a lot of words on your domain does not hurt the site's ranking. It is even better if your exact phrase is your domain name as it would be very specific.
