Google and Sub-domains

Hi all,

What are your thoughts on Googles view of subdomains?

In relation to keywords within the domain, i.e. proxysites.org, would proxy.sites.org be treated with considerably less importance?

Also how badly do less commonly used tld's hurt rankings? Has anyone noticed any difference in regards to search engine interest?

I realize Google doesn't rely alone on domain keywords, but they certainly help.

I think Google likes sub-domains. It helps if the domain that the sub is on, is somewhat popular (gets traffic).

I always see sub-domains ranking well at Google!

Thanks for your response Yofie,

I've read a few random articles implying google penalizes subdomains, but most of those articles ultimately seem to state they don't know whether Google does or not anyway.

It'd be nice to test, but given google will penalize duplicate content, i can't see it being too easy.
