I need hard SEO answers before I buy

Guys, I need to understand a few things before spending xxxxxx on a domain.

How long does it take to be ranked 1-2 or 3 on the main page of google?
Can someone get to the top of google in 6 months with a new name, HONESTLY???

If it could be done what would that cost... NOT THE CHEAP ROUTE.

I had offered $50k, $70 then $100k he wants more and I want to know if this info ads value?

Domain has been regd since 97, it has been on all search engines for over 9 years. Domain is Product name. Here are stats.

Nobody can ever make any such guarantees. It depends on a lot of factors, like quality contents, backlinks and hard work

The domain itself will play a role in SEO but won't act like a magic wand

I don't think you should spend six figs on a domain right now unless you know exactly what you're doing, and have a strong business plan.

Thanks for the reply...We are in this business, we know what we are doing in that aspect, we just didnt understand this info being sent to us after we had been negotiating. I have sent the email to my SEO team but I want other opinions that are not employees (maybe they are a bit on the "I can do it side"). By the way they all agreed 100k was fair but he wants more. Can the ad-sense key words be3k to 25k each? I have never heard that.

This is true its the total amount they pay google for traffic. These are high fequency customers(people from the domain you want) and they pay $$ for traffic.

typing traffic alone would be hot on this(easy to spell correctly), he give you any traffic stats?

I think in 6 months page 1 is possible, wouldnt bet leaping wiki, sec.gov, and investopedia quickly tough.

Domain name is only one factor for better and quicker SEO. As said above, there are many factors that contribute towards the optimisation of a website, such as contents, quality backlinks and regular updates. I don't know the domain name but from your thread I understand that it is a product name. $100k or more is not a shocking price for a product name, as you will get the generic traffic from day one provided the competition is not TOO high.

I would not spend $100k only for SEO purposes, instead I will buy a name in the range of $5-10k and I will spend around $10k on building backlinks, offline and also direct marketing strategies. However if have enough funds for SEO (both off pgae and on page) I may spend $100k if I can afford provided the name is the best fit and adds credibility to my business.

This is true it would drop off page one if you parked it. You either need to keep what he has up after you bought it or have something killer to move into it right away.

I would have thought he would take 50k, I would worry like crazy giving 100k for it. The com at any time could always come off of parking and smoke you.

Take this with a grain of salt but a quick look at your numbers i figure a simple adsense site designed to display ads better than the current site would make about a grand a month maybe 2-3k but that it as far as my experience tells me.

Lets say perfection happen and you get 100 people open a new account per month and your on something like commission junction and get $50 bucks per. That would be 60,000 a year

Ok so this sounds like .com was the way to go? So I was going originally for the com but the net was so high up on engines and I thought it would be less. This is why I wanted to know how long an SEO team would take to jump him. I may need to go back to the drawing board and rethink the 2 names.

The .com has a safety net that the dot net doesnt have. And that is stellar pure resale vaule not tied into rank. I would take the 100k you wanted to give the net and try to strecth it some and get the .com Take a look at where the dot org is on google (compared to their low site quality), i bet your team could jump them in 3 months.

It is difficult to provide absolute guarantees in seo work. The algorithm is not fixed or permanent. A little change will change the entire ranking of keywords.

Usually .net is worth one tenth of the value of .com.

Without even knowing the domain, based on the fact that it's a .net w/ 3k-25k/mo TOTAL adwords revenue, I'm inclined to say its not worth it at all.

The .com might be worth that, but then again w/o knowing the domain name, I'll be slightly wary of a 100k valuation for anything.

Given the fact that the seller is aware of your background and probably your imperative need for this domain is working against you viz. pricing.

For a 100k you can pretty much guarantee a front page rank through white hat seo in about a year, its a lot to pay for just the domain.

I'd recommend going for an alternate extension, heck, get a ccTLD if nothing else is available and spend 100k on content and seo to get it to page 1 for your search term.

In SEO, no one can never announce any date that he or she will bring this site with this keyword after xxxxxxx days.. Although once can estimate the expected duration to bring your website to first page of Google.
