Question on <strong> tag

I've heard mixed reviews on it's effects on a website.

If I define my keywords with a <strong> tag will this benefit any on page SEO?

If I define in the CSS that <strong> text is to look the same as standard text.. is there repercussions for this?

Cancer Survivorship
It's a very, very minor factor. Like anything else, if you overdo it, Google is likely to identify it as spam regardless of how you style it.

But it's helpful to maybe pull it off 2 or 3 times on a page.

Cancer Survivorship
Meh - it has minimal impact. Won't hurt, but there are more effective ways to improve your rankings. I wouldn't bother with making it blend in with your other text - that's wasted effort. If you see a place to emphasize the keyword with a <strong>, use it, otherwise skip it.
