Help! reciprical link placements

Hello,

I wasn't sure if this should go in the web design or SEO sections so here it goes. I'm currently trying to sort out some decent backlinks for a website i've just created and I've been asked on a number of occasions to provide a reciprical link. One or two maybe able to squeeze on to my website without much problem, but more would be noticable. Obviously I'm not the first one to come across this issue, and I was wondering where you all placed your reciprical links? I was considering a tagging a page on to a sitemap with "friends of domain" or something silly like that

Thanks in advance

Dave

You could definitely make a page called Friends or Partners..
As I always use blogs, I just put all the links into my sidebar

I prefer to place such links at the bottom of the main page of the website.

I think you can create a page like 'valuable links' containing the links of different sites. At the bottom of home page you can put that 'valuable links' linking back to the respective page.

You could create a resources section, personally I think that recip links give back a poor return on your invested time.

Link is a link whether you get it in the form of reciprocal or one-way.
I'm of the opinion that every link counts.

My website ranks for over 80 keyword phrases in the Google SERP's and I have never used reciprocal linking. And I am not about to start now!

I've read that google ignores pages with the word links in the url, especially if it is just links.html, but this is probably an urban myth.
What I don't think is a myth though is that reciprocal links are of very little value... I wouldn't worry about what to name the page. I'd think about doing something else.

Well, if you choose to believe this your link building efforts will be a waste of time. These links are called anchor text links and they are hugely important.

This is what I can say for sure. My website ranks for more keyword phrases than most and I have never used this method. It just isn't worth the effort to me. One way anchor text links are the way to go for me.

Sounds about right to me... ;-)

The bottom line is they aren't that easy to acquire there are easier ways to build better links IMHO.

hi Mesa,
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=652705
I think you misunderstood what I wrote. When I wrote, "google ignores pages with the word links in the url" I didn't mean "word links" (i.e. anchor text, I mean the word "LINKS" in the url.
Specifically, I meant people have said that if your page url is mydomain.com/link.html or mydomain/cool-links.html, then google may just ignore that page.
I think you saw "word links" and thought I meant anchor text, which is not what I meant. I agree that ANCHOR TEXT is critical, and as I said, I'm not sure if having the word LINKS as part of the url is a problem or not.
Hope this makes more sense!
