Ever heard of Scratch My Back Marketing?

Scratch My Back Marketing is a link building technique that incorporates branding and advertising into the link building process. It requires that you exchange useful content or comments in exchange for valuable Do Follow backlinks.

The advantages are tremendous. Your comment or post is less likely to be deleted if you add value and are not self promoting. It might also produce traffic and business.

Think about this: have you ever visited a site or blog from a comment that read "nice post?" The answer is likely no. But if you are like most you might visit a site from someone who left a useful comment.

Yes, adding useful content and comments does take more time but those comments are not likely to be deleted so you are further ahead in the long run.

I agree and have done some work trying to use this type of 'marketing' to drive traffic/leads to my sites. As a blogger, I do enjoy comments that add valuable insight, opinion or tips on the article subject. Surely, I more often visit the site of someone who has good, well thought comment/reply over someone who just writes something to get their comment approved = link on my page.

Great, glad to hear it. This concept of adding value is nothing new but very few people ever take the time to implement it. I have simply provided a name for the process. We all recognize quality when we see it, but very few slow down long enough to realize that they can do the same thing.

On my blog I get 19 spam comments for every good one that I get. I use anti spam software that eliminates bot spam and I require a 150 character comment to be considered for a link and these people still don't get it. They all seem to thing that telling me how great my blog hoping this will work, but it doesn't.

Leaving a quality comment actually requires reading which most will not do.

Your very welcome. Where this approach really can be very effective is when it is used on web 2.0 social media sites by adding social content. These sites usually get way more traffic than blogs so your comments and content have the opportunity to enhance your branding efforts.

I see that one of your links offers SEO training which I also do. I include this concept in my training and I would encourage you to do so as well. I recently had a conversation with a client/student. He told me that he struggled with the concept of adding value at first but that he now gets it.

Since he started applying this his site when from being ranked in the I can't be found zone in a competitive market to the first page for several keyword phrases. I really enjoy sharing tips like this that can actually empower small business to succeed.

I have been using this concept for a few weeks now and I have found that it works very well for me. I just discovered that one of my keywords is now ranking # 1.

Doing nice things for people can go along way. Sometimes it is also nice to find a "sister site" where you have something in common, and then just help each other to get traffic (usually for limited time like 30 days is best).

Well, I have been using this method for several months after becoming aware of it. I saw nowhere to be found in the search results after 5 years. Then I started using this method a few months ago I am ranking # 1 for several of my long tali keywords!

You bet its interesting. I started off 2009 rankings for about 20 keyword phrases. That's when I started using this method by the time 2010 rolled around that had increased to over 80 keyword phrases. It is now over 100!
