Old Domains and SEO

If you have a domain that has been sitting for a long while that has links and content, is it faster to get ranked again would you say?

(I have a bunch like this, and just wondering)

Try putting up a little new content and see how fast it shows up on Google. I wrote a post and decided two hours later I didn't like it and took it down. Google already had it indexed. PR3 site if I remember right. I don't think that would have happened with a new site.

Cancer Survivorship
With Caffeine they're indexing a LOT of things faster though - I put up a new article on a site with virtually no backlinks that had been sitting idle and gathering dust for several months, it was indexed by the next day. (Haven't launched anything new since last year though, so I can't speak for new sites)

But yes, all things being equal (i.e. as long as you never gave Google any reason to DISLIKE the domain in the past) aged domains are a good thing.

It depends on the reputation of the domain - if it has large age and good estimates - then why not to renew contents?

I think an old domain can help, but this is a hotly contested topic in the SEO world. Google are wise to people buying old domain names so they can rank well more quickly, and they don't want people buying up old domains and putting up spammy content!

Nothing beats an aged WEBSITE in my opinion. An aged domain may well help, but don't expect miracles. It would certainly be good to develop.

I agree with most of the members that aged domains have an extra edge over the other new domain names in terms of SEO. Having said that, I think content and links are still the basis for ranking.

If this site starts to get quality/relevant backlinks and if you start to add quality/useful content, then its ranking may soon improve.

The answer is yes if the domain has good old backlinks related to content, but if you change the niche, old backlinks becomes low quality in google eyes. Matt Cutts from google said that domain age doesn`t cont much for ranking, he said that quality content cont much more.

This is wonderful answer. I agree with you. But if you have old domain with niche related unique contents then it will work and will you more benefit.

Old keyword content

Also if your old/dated content contains the term you are trying to rank for that also helps.
