Thumbs down Learned some lesson: Link Quality Counts

A few months back was making some few decent cash being on the first page of some keywords so I thought I do some more link building (dumped some links everywhere) hoping to improve but after less than a week my site fell back to the second page & now after a couple im not in the top 5 anymore!

This sucks my income signifacantly dropped on playing around with two sites so link quality counts & its not a good idea submitting your sites to a bunch of directories.

Is it a new site? Newer sites are more prone to ranking fluctuations than older sites.. your ranking may recovers after a few days. I do experience this effects sometimes.

For link building, try to be consistent. This is the probably the best advice I can give =)

All the best with your site!

Just keep focused on linking to relevant sites and not the shotgun approach. If you keep focused on link building from websites in your industry you'll be Okay.

Drop in ranking can occur also if using spammy links, or using too much similar anchor text. If most all of your anchor text is focused on your core phrase that may preclude your site for being able to rank high for that phrase.
Just continue to build related links mixing up the anchor text, if a site rankings fluctuate a bit but are always near the top you may just need a few more links with target anchor text, or a few more authoritative links.

a link from a high pr site counts more than a few links from low-quality sites, so submitting to good sites will decrease the amount of work too...

If this scenario was the sole factor in your SERP drop you would simply have to duplicate the same link strategy for the sites above you. You would than rise up as they dropped down. Other factors besides link quality likely caused the drop in ranking.

Quality beats quantity any day of the week. So many people think just by dropping links all over it will help when in reality it can hinder. I've also seen sites dominate the SERPs who did not link to a bunch of high PR pages but instead linked to pages with relevant content on sites that Google overall trusts highly.

A few rules for submitting to directories.

1. Never ever submit to link farms. Link farms are 'so called' directories who have no editorial policy and accept any and all submissions. Read a few of their latest entries and if you see spam/keyword stuffed titles and descriptions run for the hills. These are bad neighborhoods.

2. Only submit to SEO friendly directories. These are ones who provide at least 1 direct DO FOLLOW link to your site using your title as the anchor text.

3. Write different descriptions for submissions so Big G won't see lots of duplicate content.

4. Avoid the automated submission services. There are some quality manual services but check them out before forking over any funds.

Just keep working on building quality links from various sources. I also think if your site is new then this is quite normal. If your suggested keywords are good for you then very soon you'll get a stable position in Google. But don't stop to link back your site from various sources (except link farms etc.) by using forums, blogs, articles, social bookmarking and networking, squidoo lens, hubpages, video marketing and many more possible sources.

Question Better SEO

Not sure how I can get better ranking so any advice is great. This domain is only a couple of weeks old.

A search in Google for 5 star cruise ship (spaces between all) and I'm no where to be seen.

A search in Google for 5 star cruiseship (no space between cruise and ship) and I'm near the top.

Do you think in time I will rank better? I am up against some big players here.
Better site content maybe?
