Nice post.

However, I haven't found social bookmarking working for my sites. I tried it but the results were not good.

I have seen many people talking about social bookmarking and how happy they are from the resutls. Unfortunately, it never worked for me.

Certain websites do better on certain social sites. Sites that appeal to consumers work on Stumble. Tech stuff on Digg.

Social bookmarks are helpful only and if only you're doing it in a way that will look natural and not spam. If you follow one single pattern during this whole process then it will be of no use and you will see no result. You have to make variations during this process to see better results.

I agree with you that activeness and participation is the key to success in social bookmarking. Most of the people make an account on a social site just to put their link. Once they do it, they're gone and they're never coming back. This way social bookmarking will not benefit you at all and this is why most of the people say that social bookmarking was of no use at all for them.
