Important! bad backlinks. What to do?

Hey

I check my web stat twice a week. Especially for the Total Referrers.
Problem is, I can only see my top 30.

Now today I noticed a few strange links.
My domain was used a few years ago for some illegal upload service (18+, software, ... you know the drill).

Now I have a list of 5 domains... How can I make sure google dont associate this with backlinks or how do I remove these? I tried to mail one of these owners, but to be honest I dont think trey will ever help.

Kind regards

You should never worry about backlinks you get some bad sites, the thing that is important is to make sure that there is no link to any bad site on your own website.

You cannot control who link to your site, but you have the control to whom you link to.

In case, Google or any other SE used to penalize a site for getting a bad backlink, then I guess people would have started to build thousands of backlinks from bad sites for their competitors.

Some of the top SEOs actually get paid big bucks to destroy competitors by showering them with thousands of bad links. Google understands that every website is going to have some bad links pointing to it and so long as you don't have far more than others in your niche, you aren't likely to be penalized.

I have hundreds of bad links pointing to my blog but still get plenty of search engine referrals (and my blog's domain used to be an adult website around 10 years ago before I owned it). If you have a lot of relevant high trust links, you really don't have anything to worry about if there's a bad link here and there. If your site is brand new and all it has is bad links pointing at it, then maybe that is something to worry about.

Hi,

Backlinks will not hurt your PR or site quality any how.

So dont worry about those links.

Search engines would not count those links as backlinks for your site.

Thanks
Jerry

Sorry for the late response, I haven't stopped working till now
I really appreciate your help.

But I thought I heard you could setup a robot.txt with some restrictions to/from websites... is this true?

regards

I'd rather use the Deny IP feature in cPanel, if you use it.

Back links does hurt your PR in a long run if you're gaining back links that also has low PR then it will drag your PR as well. Make sure to get back links that are related and if possibly with high PR.

I don't think thats accurate 100% The bold one is true as its gives a great effect for our site to have same niches pointing to your direction however one thing for certain is that we cannot control who links to our sites. Having bad links is also counted as something out of our control and search engines understands that.
Only one thing though which as Reece points out which is the sudden surge of backlinks to your site. This does trigger an alarm for SE and they will see if your site is doing something illegal or not.In some certain cases they penalize sites building backlinks in an alarming rate. However if you suspect the backlinks are created by envious competitor to "destroy" your rank then contact Google support for further notice.

Well this clears alot of things.
Also glad this thread might help out other people.

But still it bugs me a bit to know my link is used in adult/warez websites.

We have no control over incoming links from other site. Google also understood this.
