Is Microsoft trying too hard?

The interesting world of the microsoft search.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/search-engines/586962-is-microsoft-trying-too-hard.html

MSN Search - Failed as it search terms were irrelevant to results. Micrsofts original search engine.

Live - This was suppose to be Microsoft's "Google Killer". Instead, this search engine failed and didnt live up to what it was projected to be. Instead, this site focused on competition such as portal sites like yahoo as it failed in the search world.

Bing - Microsofts newest search. Gets release to the public on wensday. I predict a complete fail.

Personally, My opinion is that Microsoft should stop creating different search engines and focus on the backend if its live search. Live is only 3 yrs old or so and honestly it hasnt been marketed the way it should have been. But eh, Im not getting paid the big bucks so i dont know.

I found out about Bing in this very forum, then I remembered to see few hits from a unknown site I saw today. When I checked my Google Analytics, the hits were from Bing

I checked by site's ranking in Bing and it was same as MSN or live search. I guess Bing show us the same results.

Not much has changed as all of us have noted, same results, different background color scheme and probably a lot of money thrown around to market bing. On a positive note though, I do think the "flyouts" are an improvement on the side next to the search results.

I think Microsoft should spend money on something else other than Search Engines because, it will take more time, maybe a decade, to beat the Google.

No matter how many search engines Microsoft create, if they dont do anything to improve search results in at least one of them they will always be 3rd in the SE world. I do not even understand why if my pages are ranking well in yahoo and google are no were to be found on Live searches. MSN bot discriminates and discard pages in a really stupid way

Bing is focused on Onpage factors with the meta data heavily from my experience/tests which doesn't make it worse than Google necessarily but different, which can be seen as good for the SE industry to bring more variation and progress.

Overall, I am most impressed (from a site dev, SEO AND end-user standpoint) with the latest effort from MSFT.

How much traffic are you getting from Bing to your sites?

Not necessary, may be they will think to make an add-on to all Windows and may will have some fans and will grow up , are maybe Google will sell their business... It's crisis, no?

I don't think that it is possible to "kill" Google. It is too strong. And creating other search engines is just waste of time and money!

At least, Google has a competitor. Monopoly is usually not a good thing.

if you don't play, you never win. Its the same thing with getting rich. YOu have to risk it, and probably lose it many times before you hit "gold". MS was losing alot of money in gaming, but hey, HALO, the best new generation video game started on their system, and the xbox 360 is in a solid position now. I want MS to compete with hegemonic, eat-you-all-up google and yahoo, bcos competition is healthy, even if MS can't do it profitably. MS owns..

I don't think Microsoft is trying too hard. As someone has specified, Monopoly is not good at all. For best results, you should have a minimum of 2-3 competitors.

Trying too hard?
As what as i have observed with their SE launching
they've tried MSN and LIVE and it wasn't really successful
and i guess now, they're trying their luck with Bing.

Well, business is business. If you have that bigger competitor like google then you should try some experiments that you think have much appeal to all internet users. The point there is at least they are trying to come up with new ideas to beat the competitor.
