I need free backlinks 100+ - were do i start?

is their a link exchange program available - any suggestions - google search so far has not helped!

How have you come across the figure of 100?

I would try getting proper backlinks prior to doing link exchanges etc. If you have good contact it wont take long to get 100 links.

100 backlinks are easy with directories etc.

But if you rather go for the site links from other relevant sites to your niche then it is a slow job but it pays better

Why not just focus on getting 10 relevant and quality backlinks? It's better than 100 random untargeted backlinks IMO.

Or you may submit to directories, comment on blogs, etc....

There are so many of them out there, but usually ezinearticles.com, articlebase.com, goarticles.com are good ones. The more relavant to your "niche" website the better.

Also, make sure that the article submission site dont use "no follow" links. (check out the source code, ctrl+f to check nofollow in <a href...... syntax).

Another thing to consider when you are link building using article submission is if the website you are link building to is new and fresh one, your article on a site like ezinearticles (with more trust) can outrank you in the SERPs, i.e. your article will rank higher than your website.

How do you know you need 100 backlinks? Is there a restriction on PR of backlink page, in-content link, navigation bar links etc.?

I won't advice link exchanges (specially 100) for your site. You can use some free methods given by others in this thread and also do guest posts on some blogs if you are good at writing.

Link exchange is not really helpful, because it is a cross link. A one way link is better, but it's not really easy to get it for free, except for blogging, social bookmarking, article submission and forum signature.

You can get 100+ links via article submissions but the best, free and natural way to get lot of backlinks will be to write useful content and add it to your site, people finding that content useful will link for free

top 20 article directories,
top 20 Press release sites,
Top 20 Forums.

Always try to get back linked from High Pr site and these top sites have High Pr and High Traffic too.

Anyway, if you need related backlinks with the proper anchor, you don't need to rush, and start building your backlinks in time.

Those linking methods I quoted are the best indeed.

Please don't link to your own sites. If you have really good resource then mention it once only. Not 5 times as it is over doing it. Please read the rules of this section.

I would advise you to search for the ready lists of forums, web link and article directories in web. Make sure that when acting in such a way, you will manage to increase both traffic and link mass very quickly.
