Put the 'bookmark' buttons of whatever sites next to your content, and engage in your website visitors by providing accurate and relevant content.. they may just bookmark and bump you up as a courtesy....

Note that some social sites are better at generating traffic depending on your subject. Stumbleupon is good for regular consumer stuff.

Also some social site are truly "do follow" so they help you in your SERP efforts.

For me, social bookmarking is one of the best technique to generate traffic. I also do some directory submission, forum posting, blog commenting, blog posting, article submission and press release submission..

If you have something newsworthy, unique or shocking to say, submit a link to your web page to sites like digg.com or redit.com. Note, just because you build it doesn't mean they will come. If it's boring link it will quickly get buried by newer and more interesting stories.

Of course! Many business use that kind of strategy to generate traffic for their main site, but it would be better if you build friends and relationships for more vote in your content. More vote means increase in traffic and credibility.

Well if you want to people Bookmark your stuff , the easy way is place Bookmark buttons of popular Social sites on your site , but if you are afraid to give back links to those sites , then use social media networks very regularly and make lot of Fan and friends out there And convince them to vote for your articles and bookmark pages ... I personally would add every bookmarking icon to my webpage because it gives you a chance of receiving free traffic and build backlinks...even if you don't get the direct traffic from 90% of them, some will yield direct traffic while the others will help your site build backlinks and spread it's content.
