Social Bookmarking and Directory Submission

Here I am going to share my own experience about this two link building methods.

I used to do directory submission and social bookmarking for my sites as well as for my clients for years. From my experience I found that they are really useful and the fastest method for getting backlinks from search engines. They can also help in getting good SERP for less competitive keywords.

The main thing that you should consider before doing a link building is that, your OnPage factors should be fine.

I think directory submission do not help much these days. I have done directory submission for one of my sites, one year ago. I submitted to more than 1000 directories. But in Google Webmaster tools, I only see 10 or so backlinks coming from those directories.

So now, I only submit to high PR directories only.

Site structure

With some directories I've noticed that they have very few pages actually cached at the big G. I don't really care about the PR its more important that the pages actually get indexed. Now in theory a high PR site would get indexed more often but even some low PR directories have lots of indexed pages.

Directory submission takes time for approval. So you need to wait.

social bookmarking is one of the fastest methods of getting backlinks and maybe some traffic, but for directory submission, it doesn't apply. directory submissions can take months for the backlinks to show as google needs to crawl the internal pages which can be 3 or more clicks away from the home page

If the main aim to get traffic is through directory submissions.Think beforehand that it would take months to be approved or worse, wouldn't be approved at all. The faster way is thru social bookmarking and link exchanges with relevant sites.

I would agree with you priyakochin, as i'm doing directory submissions and social bookmarking for my sites and have give me a hell lot of backlinks and traffic.

I'm a directory submissions service provider as well, and know what it can get for your site , both if you talk about SERPS or with traffic.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this

Hi buddy,
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/search-engines/514902-social-bookmarking-and-directory-submission.html

It's really a good tool.

However, I use very few bookmarking sites among them.

Just wondering where you came up with this? Can you provide some links to back this up?

which do you think the best way to get backlinks ? Social Bookmarking or Directory Submission ? Social bookmarking sites use no follow tag most of the time So is it worth doing it except for direct traffic ?

With the invention of software, directory submission lost the charm. But even now if you submit your website through the manual submission to good directories than you will be able to see the results.

My favourite way to build backlinks is Forum postings and blog comments.

Directories can help with anchor text and to rank certain key phrases and also provide backlinks. Directory submission is more beneficial for new sites that have no backlinks yet and pages that are trying to rank well for long tail keywords.

Software that is semi automatic is just like doing it manually but you get to submit to many more directories.. then with out software....

Full auto software yes is spamming...

Google is now not recommending even Yahoo Directories and this one is indirectly showing that directory submission is now not that much impressive which it used to.

But however if you have got someone who knows directory submission and SEO than his service will be more profitable instead of those who do directory submission blindly.

I know one and he is doing mine from past 1 year.
