Does adding directory to website increase ranking

Does adding directory to website increase ranking, and is it worth doing it.

For exmaple having loan site www.example.com and adding directory here www.example.com/directory.
and in the directory only having finace realte site to it.
So basically only adding website that is related your your niche

Will not hurt if you do good links stuff on it. Relevant ones.

It will also give you a place to put links of other sites with whom you can exchange the links. Reciprocal links will bring in traffic and improve your ranking.

with traffic comes clicks

and clicks on your adds creates revenue

directory links may increse your pagerank, that will increase your serp and this will increase your traffic. But take care: neither all of the directory links have quality.

Internal linking also helps in SEO. Having a directory or additional pages within your site (with good content) would help you in terms of SEO so long as interlink the pages properly.

directory submission is imp but u should know which dir is imp and pure and which is spammed and the link page has at least 30 outbound link unless it wont worth for ur link

well dir submission is a legacy way of getting backlinks ... this is going to take time..
another quick way is to go for social bookmarking.. this will bring in generic traffic quickly..

Links from high PR directories in relevant categories with the proper anchor text is greatly helpful to your SERP rankings. All relevant links are good links as long as its not in a "bad neoighborhood" or "no follow".

yes its difficult to find or know which dir is spammed but recently google has culled and penalised many popular web directories(which are banned) for selling their services and listings based on passing on PageRank (link juice). I think that ditectory submission is the must for everyone who is doing SEO. But once it is done it doesn't mean you will be on the 1 position

Sure, but I would be selective on the sites I would add in the directory. Then request a reciprocal link back to your website in turn for adding them to yours.

Add a directory if it makes sense for your users, is it going to benefit them. A directory will though possibly also send people away from your site so take that into account also. Also helps with content if you add a description of the page the link in the directory goes to, extra content.

Its not actually a must as there are better ways to build backlinks for SEO - but for newer sites, I'd say directories are one of the easiest venues to get backlinks.

I think that adding directory to the main web site (which is under development) will be not really good for web site. Only 6third level domain name can be an option

Make sure the directories that link to you have a high PageRank (PR higher than 4 usually).. otherwise it would be a waste of time (and money)...

Paid directories with high PR are a good way to start (Yahoo, Business.com, etc.)
