Question Discussion: KW in Domain, does it add value to appraisals or not?

I am really wondering why when domainers are looking at domains for a value they goto Google and search in quotes? This started to really get to me when I was looking for an appraisal on AmericaFu.com when America.com is selling for a very decent price.

I have been doing SEO since 1995, speak at SEO shows and experiment on SEO daily. Not trying to say I am the best at it, but for cred sake, I think I know a little about it.

The intrinsic value of a keyword leading in a domain regardless of the word following should be very high to a enduser or a reseller, especially as keywords that are short and memorable disappear. You can then SEO the word very easily at that point, so therefore number of searches on the root phrase is more important that the secondary word.

Example: cars.com has a huge value. Shouldn't CarsPlace.com be worth a very decent amount since it has cars in the domain and is memorable?

But, according to the experts who appraise domains, when evaluating the value of a domain, will look at the 2 words in quotes, for the number of searches, versus the core word in quotes.

I am new to domaining and domain investing btw, so I am still learning.

Would love to hear responses from people input on this.

Domaining and appraisals of domain names depends on lots of points. Out of which the keywords in domain names are just one of them.

Maybe that is why the major keyword itself is going for good price.

I think that now looking for domain names with keywords in them is time wasting, All of them are aleready taken and some of them have no such SEO value. Domain name must be short as possible and memorable and web site mu8st have nice SEO to rich good results.

there's a lot more to domaining than just the keywords.

for example, cars.com is a lot more like bikes.com than carsplace.com...

There are many factors that affect domain value. Commercial value and frequency of core keyword is one of them because level of competition is closely related to PPC income (means higher cost per click) and also to possible enduser sales price. Most likely you can sell name with "domain" or "car" in it for better price than domains around "magician" or "testimonial".

Enduser appeal and type-in traffic can be somewhat forecasted measuring searches and frequency for both words - most valuable domains have ability to bring natural visitors and generate that way parking income or additional customers for endusers business.

Commercially valuable keyword means nothing if domain is not enough generic, brandable, attractive etc. For example CarsMelon.com or DomainsAcne.com have value close to zero despite "cars" or "domains" in these names.
