my traffic got 7 times more in 24hours
one of my sites used to get around 3000 page views each day
i am lost got fedup of that inactive site and decided to abandon suddenly on 1/4/2008 the traffic raised to 9000
on the day that followed it reached 70863 and today till now its 19978
what might have caused this sudden spike in traffic ( i didnt use any social bookmarks lately)
Regards

Has the traffic stabilized now? Or is it consistently staying much higher than 3000 pageviews?

Humm... maybe your site got some marketing done via some news or something.
OR
Someone is hitting it with web fetching softwares.
Are this unique hits? You can always see the source of the traffic in stats.

Maybe you can check your stats to see which page(s)seems to be attracting this amount of visitors. Congrats!

you should put some tracking software on (analytics or statcounter) and see where your traffic is coming from (search engines, backlinks, etc).
congrats!

Yeah, you'll have to check your logs. Could have been something in the news where there is a jump in some keywords where you rank near the top.

Have you checked the backlinks lately? IF you for some reason got a backlink on a huge site that could be the source of sudden traffic, but that would be a pretty big site to get that much.

Possibly after a SE update the PR jumped and your position for one or more keywords jumped.

What are you talking about? PR has extremely little to do with traffic.
